Good luck, my RNY was 8/10. I agree with the walking. The more you move around, the better you will feel. Also, one day at a time. Don’t be discouraged if you have a setback or a bad day. I’ve definitely had some not great days and struggle with fatigue and drinking enough liquids but give your body time to heal. This is a big, life/body changing ordeal! Be well!

Good Luck! I had mine July 23rd and I was a nervous wreck. I woke up before I knew it and was so glad it was over. Now, I'm on my next chapter. Just remember your fluids, Protein and walking.

This forum is great and everyone has been really helpful. Your not alone..

Good luck with your surgery. Just remember the goals they give you are just that- goals! Don't expect to drink the full requirement of fluids your first day post op. You can slowly work up to the desired goal and you will be fine. Don't worry you aren't losing weight fast enough...it will happen if you follow the process! Walk as much as you can after surgery and take your pain meds if you need them. This is a life changing decision you have made. Do the work and enjoy the reward! Most of all...never go back to what got you here in the first place! Best of luck with your new life!

Keeping you in my thoughts. My surgery was last week. I was nervous as well. One min I was being sent to the back and the next minute I was in recovery. Just do the best you can as no day is the same. Walking is a big help. I do my best to get up and walk several times a day. You got this!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
