I too donated about a year to Curves. I am just simply got bored of it. Tiny room with a circle of machines. Nothing really interesting to me. I am very fortunate though that we have a gym at work and a trainer so I finally got the light bulb in my head on and started working out in there and I love it.

Well, Crispy and traci - y'all are young - I am 55 and I never get bored with Curves. There is something about everyone talking and getting some excercise at the ripe old ages of 50+:bandit

I joined 3/07 six weeks after my surgery. I think it has been very beneficial in getting me used to some type of physical activity. Has also helped me to lose inches. It is a little pricey in my opinion and can get boring at times but I try to do different things at the recovery stations. Also on days when it is not too crowded, I will switch up the order of the equipment. I like the fact that it is women only so that is why I stick with it.I find that I need structure so it works for me. I also ride elliptical bike at work and have a little cardio workout that I do at home but i cannot rely totally on that. Treadmills bore me. They have an advanced workout that is supposed to help you get more out of your workout by increasing your heartrate. That is a bit much for me. Luckily, my Curves is about three minutes from my house so it is easy for me to go after work and on Saturday mornings at time. I think it also helps that I am single with no kids so I have more time in which to go. Still it has not always been easly and sometimes I really have to push myself to go but I have seen benefits so for right now, I am sticking with it.

Well TXbandit, I'm totally with you! I have belonged to Curves for five years this coming Valentines Day and I absolutely LOVE it!

Our Curves has become, besides being exercise, a form of socialization. You get to know everyone and it's just nice to go "where everyone knows your name"!

I DID also join the YMCA this past January--for the machines and free weights there--to provide exercise for other/different muscle groups and a little harder/heavyweight workout.

So I workout two days a week at Curves and two days a week at the YMCA. Would I give up either one of them? NEVER!!! :bounce:

Does Curves cater mostly to women? My health care provider offers discounts for fitness centers, but all the ones hey offer near me are Curves.

I really want to try curves, they are 1 1/2 blocks from my house and my treadmill is getting boring, so of course, I'm not using it. I can get in a really good workout when I do use it.....Can someone tell me how Curves works? Is it 5 minutes on this machine and 5 minutes on a different one...etc? Does all this switching keep your heart rate up?

Perhaps I'll stop by tomorrow and check it out.

Do all of you that go there regularly like it?

Do you have a limit of how many times a week you can use it?

Curves is for women only.

I have been a member there twice. I love it when I go, but the nearest one to me is 30 miles from home, and 15 minutes from work. Just not feasible for me...

Curves is a "circuit-weight" training and here's how it works:

The initial Curves store has eight machines and eight "resting stations". (The eight machines are preset on the weights, so there is no changing them each time and the "resting stations" are pads that are used for walking, dancing, jogging).

You do 30 seconds on each machine (a sound system tells you when to change) and you go around the circle three times to hip music. (so it makes 8 minutes for each complete circle and equals 24 minutes for the entire three circles).

As the Curves store gets more members, it can 'earn' up to three new machines and three more resting stations--so you would then go around 2+ times.

Each store is individually owned, so you can get a great owner (like ours is--and he's a guy) or I heard of one near us where the owner does not allow anyone to talk--OMG!!!

Regardless, the $29 a month is totally worth it--our store is always having games and promotions to win prizes. In February, there is a membership / food drive--bring in a few cans of food, and they waive the enrollment fee (I think it's a one-time $75)

And that's what I know and love about Curves...;)

I'm another Curves veteran ( 3 years) who has finally found exercise that I enjoy. I work hard on the machines, get the blood pumping and the muscles burning. It's a nice community of women who support each other and make everyone feel welcome. I go daily and always feel better after I do the workout. My Curves is also big enough so that a lot of us walk around the machines and 40 times around the circuit is a mile.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
