So, I got my surgery done last month, in July, and have only lost about 16lbs so far. Yesterday morning I woke up and felt like it was hard to take a deep breath. Today didn't feel much different. I'm totally trying to avoid going to ER, but I guess I'll get looked at tomorrow. Anyone else have this type of problem?

I love looking at your before and after photos..😊 Reading your weight loss journeys gives me inspiration. I hope 8 months down the line I can share my photos of the "new" me.

Well 16 pounds is actually really good! Congrats! As for the hard to take a deep breath bit... are you asthmatic? I have on and off issue with that since my surgery, especially at night, but I was told it would eventually get better. Though the smoke from the fires here in California aren't making it better... 😓

But, you may want to get tested for Corona Virus because breathing issues is a symptom. Hopefully it isn't that though!

16 lbs is normal. I think people have a skewed perception because of shows like "My 600 Lb Life", but you have to remember those people start out at a MUCH higher BMI than the typical WLS patient. Although there are outliers on either side, most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range that first month. I lost 16 lbs, like you, even though I started out heavier than you. And I ended up losing all of my excess weight. So don't fret - it's your level of commitment that determines your ultimate success, not your rate of weight loss. You are doing just fine!

I had my surgery a week before yours and my weight loss has been slow, too. I only lost 15 pounds the first month, I had my 3-week stall right on schedule, and I'm hoping to get to 20 pounds down by my 6-week follow-up (which is on Thursday). Even though I know that this is a decent weight loss, it is still so frustrating when I see all these people posting who started off at a lower weight than I did and lost twice as much weight in the first month. I guess we just have to be patient.

Regarding the shortness of breath, I don't want to raise alarm, but that is one of the primary symptoms of COVID-19. Are you having any other symptoms like fever, cough, loss of taste/smell? Do you have a pulse oximeter at home to monitor your blood oxygen? You can get one on Amazon (or possibly at a pharmacy) and it can help you figure out if you need to get medical attention.

I lost about 15 pounds the first month. I lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet. I have two weeks before my two month and I am already down 12 for this second month. Just keep going. It happens if you stick to your plan of getting Protein, Water, and avoiding high calorie foods like bread, Pasta, and sweets.

SOB can be a medical emergency, especially if you are having a hard time catching your breath at rest and have to pause to complete sentences. Definitely think you should contact your doctor. COVID is one potential cause, but there are many others too, and some of them can be life threatening. Hope you are feeling better, but if not, please get checked out and keep us posted!

How are you doing now? Have you seen or called a doctor about your shortness of breath?

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
