MariaC6 45 Posted August 12, 2020 Ok what the hell, I’m three days into my pre-op liquid diet of shakes, broth and other sugar free liquids and I’m bloated! I expected to wake up thinner today (day 3 of the diet) but instead my stomach is bloated and I feel like I’m holding Water. I guess it’s possible that my broth is too high sodium (I’m drinking about 16 ounces of that a day). Anyone else have this issue ? I’ve drank Premier Protein shakes for years now (albeit not 2-3 a day) so I don’t think it’s the whey that I’m reacting to. Thoughts? I don’t plan on weighing myself until Monday (since I started on Monday).

What helped me was the following: Gas X chewables then walking. Yesterday I took Mirilax and it helped but almost too well. I nearly had an accident. I wouldn’t try to restrict sodium. What I suggest is to pick stock instead. It’s more calories which you need right now, lower sodium and some minerals that can help you feel better. I dropped two pounds today and I am smaller in my clothes by a little. I also found Zico no sugar added coconut Water very easy to drink compared to water. I hope some of this might help you. 1 MariaC6 reacted to this
perfektlynrml 185 Posted August 12, 2020 Sorry I see now you are pre-op. I had similar issues before and used the same remedies except I limited my exercise to light leg raises and stretches. I wasn’t try to stir up my beast of an appetite

BigSue 1,392 Posted August 12, 2020 I don't have any tips, but yes, I experienced really bad bloating during my pre-op diet. I was supposed to drink 4 Protein Shakes per day, but most days I could only manage 3. I had a really bad day where I felt nauseated and painfully bloated. The day before surgery was Clear Liquids only and I was relieved not to have to drink any Protein shakes. I don't usually have issues with whey; I think it was just the large quantity of protein shakes I was drinking that week. 1 MariaC6 reacted to this

catwoman7 11,220 Posted August 12, 2020 you're right in that it could be the sodium in the broth - or it could be the artificial sweeteners in some of the other things. Some people do get G/I issues from those...or from some of those, anyway. However, if you've eaten these sweeteners before without incident, and you're still pre-op, then that's probably not it. 1 MariaC6 reacted to this
MandoGetsSleeved 443 Posted August 13, 2020 Not sure if this will help, but yesterday nutritionist suggested we take Lactaid pills during pre-op diet if we were drinking the Premier shakes because of the amount of milk in there - Said that would help with any ... uh... digestive issues. 1 MariaC6 reacted to this
MariaC6 45 Posted August 16, 2020 Update, today is day 7 and I feel so much better. Day three was the worst for me- terrible headache (despite drinking a ton!). Bloating is better (I used some smooth moves tea and a Gas X). Only issue now is I’m peeing way more than I used to which is probably a good thing.
