Hello--

I had a questions in regards to being able to go up stairs after surgery. I live in a home where the bathroom and bedrooms are on the 2nd story, so I imagine I will convalesce mostly up there for the first week, but I'm questioning if I should even be attempting stairs a day or two after surgery. Would it be better for me to get a hotel for a week instead?

you won't need a week. I was walking around my house pretty early on. We don't have a full flight of stairs, though (other than to the basement - and I didn't go down there). We do have some half-flights, though - at minimum, I would have gone up one when we came home from the hospital. I don't remember them being much of a challenge. If you're convalescing on the second floor so you're not having to go up and down them all day, you SHOULD be OK - but we'll see if someone with a two-story house responds. And someone who may have had a tougher recovery than I did, too.

I lived on a third floor walkup and had no trouble with stairs.

But I stayed in the hospital about a week.

They kept us longer in 2012

I have a flight of stairs in my house, so I climbed the stairs at least twice a day the first week. Only problem I had was my equilibrium. So, I did take my time going down the stairs, I was a little dizzy. But after the first full week, I was back to normal.

My bedroom is on the second story. I had surgery, came home the next day, and went right upstairs. Going slow, it was not problem. I went up and down the stairs daily after that.

Thank you all! This has calmed my nerves about returning home after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
