WhatATool:-) 15 Posted August 11, 2020 Hi y’all, I’m 1-week post op and feeling pretty decent! I do know that I’m super early to be analyzing the scale, but I was curious if anyone who has had the surgery remembers what their weight loss was like the first week, 2 weeks, or month? I’m still feeling all bloaty and not like I’ve dropped any weight. Not panicking or anything, just curious about what’s normal. Thanks!
Postop 412 Posted August 11, 2020 @WhatATool:-) I lost 19 lbs. the first month. I only weighed at the Doctor's office so I have no idea what I was earlier than that. While some might be disappointed by that number, I was thrilled. It was the most I'd ever lost in a month & I hadn't gained as I normally would have if I'd kept on as I was pre surgery. Now 15 years later, I am right where I want to be. I hope you will be, too. 2 1 ladyscorpion04, MagentaMom and tarotcardreader reacted to this
catwoman7 11,221 Posted August 11, 2020 people lose weight at all different rates due to a host of different factors, many of which you have little to no control over (i.e., age, gender, metabolic rate). Just focus on the factors you DO have control over (sticking to your plan and staying active), and the weight WILL come off, regardless of the speed. Most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month, although there are outliers. I lost 16 lbs. But it's sort of pointless to compare yourself to others because some will lose 15 lbs and some will lose 30, and again, a lot of this isn't really within your control. Just stick to your surgeon's plan - in the end, your level of commitment is what determines your success - not how quickly you lose the weight. 1 mlmx1138 reacted to this
2Bsmaller18 436 Posted August 11, 2020 I think I was swollen so at day 4-5 I was the same or higher. At 9-10 days I was down about 5 lbs. the first few weeks were 5#, the first month was an avg of 4#/week and at week 4/5 I hit an avg of 3#/week and stayed steady with that for 6 months. At that point I purposely increased calories since I was already past my goal and wanted to slow weight loss down.
Mr Alley Gator 263 Posted August 11, 2020 I lost about 3 pounds a week in the first month and averaged 4.5 pounds per week for my goal - I am a male so we loose it quicker plus i am extremely active
California Guy 131 Posted August 11, 2020 I was in the hospital for surgeries 5 days. I practically ate nothing but gained 19 lbs. during that time (IV Fluids). Went home and lost 5 lbs. per day for 4 days. After that, over the next 4 weeks I lost 5 lbs. per week. Post OP months 2 and 3 averaged 10 lbs. per month weight loss. Pandemonium 515 Posted August 11, 2020 I am 5 weeks post-op as of today and I am down a total of 27.2 lbs. My first week was the most dramatic drop at 11.4 lbs. Then it leveled off and has ranged from 2.8 to 4.8 lbs a week. I only weigh myself once a week (used to be Fridays, now it's Tuesdays since that's the day my surgery was). I may switch to every other week once I hit the 3 month mark, but we'll see. Do not weigh yourself every day. That way lies only madness. 1 Postop reacted to this

I was kinda obsessed with my weight loss and was weighing daily; I was losing weight everyday it was crazy the first month but I assume it was a ton of Fluid loss. I lost like 20lbs in the first 2 weeks and by one month I was down 38lbs; the first 3 months was insane and I lost all my excess weight by 8 months.
ladyscorpion04 14 Posted August 12, 2020 I weigh daily. It’s a personal choice and it works for me. Definitely do what works for you. I’ve averaged 3-4lbs a week. I’m 2 months post op and am on target. Good luck!

I only weighed at the surgeon's office that first year so I never saw ups, downs, plateaus. That was what worked for me. But if you feel you need to weigh more often, then go for it.☺️ Edited August 12, 2020 by Postop 1 Pandemonium reacted to this
New&Improved 1,780 Posted August 12, 2020 Everyone has their own method... I personally weighed everyday and it was good to see the numbers go down everyday. The first 6 months the weight flew off me it was so good to see. 1 ladyscorpion04 reacted to this
Bartcat1 4 Posted August 20, 2020 I like data so I have been tracking my progress since weeks before surgery. Here is the chart I made myself. We are all different but you may find it interesting. 2 2 ZeeWP, ladyscorpion04, tarotcardreader and 1 other reacted to this
