What did you lose -- than just weight?

Recommended Posts

Hello- I'm new to posting, but have been lurking around for a couple of months. I made the decision this year to start my weight loss surgery journey. I'm still in pre-op testing and appointments, so no surgery dates, but I've decided to go with RNY vs the Sleeve since I have reflux on a weekly basis, and also for the success rate that RNY had.

This year thanks to the pre-op process I've been diagnosed with sleep Apnea, pre diabetes, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty liver, which has really opened my eyes to the damage I'm doing to my body. My levels are not high by any means and I have heard multiple times from my nutritionist that my blood tests shows I'm actually quite healthy, but my family history has diabetes on both sides (multi generational), so I know what lays ahead if I do not do something now. I've been overweight since the age of 9, so it's a scary, but exciting prospect to finally be 'normal' when I enter a room.

ANYWAYS -- I want to know -- What conditions did RNY/Bypass cause you to 'Lose' other than just the weight?

I was diabetic taking Metformin every day....glucose and a1c totally normal now and no more metformin!

I had sleep apnea....gone

Cholesterol and Triglycerides elevated....normal now

I still have some blood pressure issues but I've been able to cut my dosage in half.

I discovered during my pre-op sleep study that I had a borderline case of sleep apnea, and that's long gone now. Also, several of my blood levels - cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, glucose - although still within the normal range - were at the very high end of it, and they're all on the very low end of the range now.

Honey just you wait, they will be two empty socks.

I was never a big boobed woman, but I am all the way flat now. Barely anything to fill in some A-cups.
I'm so sad...always been a DDD. Well that really means I got to get rid of stomach.

No longer take a bunch of pills for diabetes or high blood pressure.

No longer get puffed out just bending over.

No longer have to rest while vacuuming.

No longer have to shop in the MR BIG section.

It's great to look and feel normal

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
