Day 9-10 (mini post) Probiotics- I started Probiotics two days ago and I have to say my stomach feels a lot better. I am having less gas and I am also moving my bowels normally now. The product I use is a chewable strawberry flavored water taken three times a day. Only 1 go of sugar. https://www.naturesbounty.com/our-products/specialty/diet-supplements/chewable-acidophilus-with-bifidus-100-wafer/

Day 10 - a good day indeed. Today I got what I can only describe as a whoosh. Energy level is up. My daily walk was brisk and free of foot neuropathy. I ate 950 calories today. The most I have been able to get in so far. I met my Protein intake of 60 grams and had delicious Blended butternut squash and carrot Cashew soup! I went shopping for new wrist weights and I ordered a new bed. I promised myself a new bed because my old one has a huge depression where my very large bottom was. I feel better today then I have in a long time. Tomorrow is my first check up with the doctor. I’m only ten days out but I hope he advances me to purée. I’m dying to make chicken salad and feel some real food in my mouth. Feeling real good about my choice.

Day 11 - First post surgical visit. Today I saw my doctor and he was pleased with my progress. I asked him a few questions:

  1. Can I take capsules? Yes but take them one hour apart and don’t take them with anything else
  2. Can I use my exercise bike? Yes
  3. Can I use my hand weights? Yes
  4. Can I do leg lifts and stretches? Yes.
I need to let my body be my guide. If anything hurts or feels strained I am to stop on the spot,
  5. I asked about travel and to my surprise he said yes. I can travel by car or Amtrak. I don’t fly so I didn’t ask about that but I am very happy because I’m anxious to go and visit my daughter who is in her sixth month of pregnancy.
  6. I mentioned that I am taking acidophilus but he didn’t seem to have an opinion on that.

I was able to double my walking today with ease. Gas continues to be an annoying problem. I’m not going to complain too much because if gas is the worst symptom I have then I will take it.

Congrats on the progress and the new grand baby on its way. Gas appears to be a common complaint I've read on alot of the posts.

I’m post op 2 weeks. I switched to Core Protein for shakes. Lactose free and real game changer. The elite have 42 Gr protein per shake. Tolerate extremely well and tastes fantastic like a milk shake. Also, no one warned me about the gas. It’s the worst pain. It’s the co2 pumped into you for the procedure and makes you look like a bloated tick. If i was warned i would have been better prepared.

I will look into that. Thank you.

Day 13-14 moving on to Purée diet. Encountered some difficulties with purée. I mixed up some canned crab with light mayo and yogurt and I apparently did not soften it enough. It got stuck in my esophagus and I got a bad series of spasms in the area between the breast and at the top of the stomach. I’m still feeling tender hours later but my vital signs are normal. I don’t think I did any permanent damage but I plan to step back to full liquids or maybe even Clear Liquids tomorrow. So that is a very important lesson learned. Purée must be very wet and loose at first. I’m also eating too fast. I got overconfident with the way full liquids went down. Other than that I’m walking twice a day for about twenty minutes each session. I feel a little depressed today but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

My first experiences with fish (salmon and tuna) during puréed stage did not go well. I got the pain about where my pouch is and horrible cramping for about 6 hours both times, while I puked it all out. Not fun. I recommend egg salad and refried Beans. Both went down exceedingly well. Reset to full liquids for a day is a good idea. Keep on keeping on!

Thankfully I didn’t puke. I would have been very scared if that happened. I’m going to do refried Beans today. Trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

The pain was way more unpleasant than the puking. Puking is way different now than before and I consider it an improved puking experience. 😂😂 I did call my surgeon’s office and they weren’t concerned, so I wasn’t either. I have puked four times since surgery and the fish early on was the worst. I also puked up soft, white watermelon seeds early on, and my morning pills more recently. I think I took the pills too fast and they pretty much came right back up. I took them again at a slower pace and they stayed. It is bizarre how casual it feels now to puke. I HATED puking before surgery.

I have had a bit of regurgitation but not full puking. The pain was bad and it lasted! That was upsetting. So far no solid food today. Feeling better.

Hi perfektlynrml & WishMeSmaller,

Thanks so much for posting your experiences. I am hoping to get my surgery done before the holidays and this is helping me greatly.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you guys have laser surgery or the traditional way? They are going to do laser on me for my bypass and I wonder if it makes a difference in recovery.

Thanks and I wish you both well in your recoveries. :91_thumbsup::):295_rose:

Congrats on starting this journey! Do you by chance mean laparoscopic surgery? I have not heard of anyone doing Bariatric surgeries with lasers. This was my second laparoscopic surgery (first was laparoscopic, robotic assisted for hysterectomy). Honestly, both surgeries were really easy recoveries for me. I have minimal pain and bounce back pretty well after the first week post-op. The hardest part of this one was my issues with eating some foods. My surgeons plan was basically one week of full liquids and then puréed foods week two. I definitely tried foods my body wasn’t ready for too early and ended up suffering as I already discussed. But even then I felt good overall, like right after puking. I also had a hiatal hernia repair, which likely caused or contributed to the post eating pain and puke episodes. Everyone is different though. Some people go back to work the next day, and some people need a month off to recover. I have never had a traditional open surgery, but I would imagine a much tougher recovery. Good luck!

Laser was not an option in my program. Laser sounds like it would be quicker healing but it sounds like a newer technology that might not have all the kinks worked out. I’m going to look it up for sure now. You’ve got me curious.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
