Thought it might be fun to get some recommendations for new grocery items to add to my shopping list. Spices, grab n go items, anything really.

I’ll add a couple of my new faves below!

Just crack an egg. I could prepare the ingredients myself but this is great for when I’m lazy. I use an egg white instead of a whole egg.

I love most flavors of Greek yogurt, but my absolute fave is this Caramel Apple Pie yogurt. Has chunks of baked apple in it and it really hits the spot!!

  1. oikos triple 0
  2. baybel
  3. polly-o string cheese
  4. cashews
  5. sugar free pudding mix
  6. Trader Joe's salmon patties (Costco makes good salmon burgers, but I am not a member)
  7. riced cauliflower
  8. canned tuna
  9. Yasso bars (these are a treat plus they have 6g of protein)

I am still trying new foods, but these have been regulars on my grocery list post-op. I also have all kinds of dry Beans and seem to be tolerating them well. I just started eating chicken and want to start buying tenderloins or possibly drums since they seem to be perfectly portioned.

I buy a lot of turkey bacon but my kids eat more of it than I do. Since my VSG I’ve notice plant Protein sits a lot better I’ve added pictures of 2 of my favorites. The Lightlife sausage is a great ground beef replacement. I still eat a lot of chicken and shrimp that I cook in the air fryer because it’s not as dry that way. I also buy A LOT of zucchini and tomatoes and mushrooms.

I’m also buying the Healthy Choice dressings. They’re a great marinade for chicken or just on salads. I also love the Torani sugar free syrups for coffee or in plain Greek yogurt.

I'm really enjoying the Earth Grown Veggie Burgers from Aldi's (they come in Thai, Asian, and Black Bean Chipotle). I also love, love, love Beyond Burgers. I put all on Brownberry Sandwich Thins or the Aldi's equivalent and make up sauces for them (since the only one I put ketchup on is the Beyond Burger. It seems wrong on the others)

I also love Aldi's Fit & Active 20-calorie bars (see pic below)

Light & Fit Creme Brulee (one of their seasonal flavors, so it's not always available) is a favorite, too.

This might sound weird, but they are really good with chutney on them. I did it by mistake and it was really good.

They have a lot of good options and their produce is usually cheaper than other stores, at least in my area. Also, their Protein Powder is pretty decent for 170 calories a serving and 30g of Protein.

I have tacos at least once a week.
2 tacos 205 calories, I just add veggies & use dry seasoning.

I use 96% lean ground beef 3 oz is 105
Hard Taco shells are a surprising and crunchy low calorie item. 50 calories a piece.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
