I don’t have a Primary Care doctor. My coordinator said I need to establish care with one now so when the surgery time comes hopefullyin December, I can get medical clearance quickly. She said I need to schedule an appointment with PCP now. What I am not clear is what am I supposed to schedule an appointment for right now? Just a physical? And tell them I am planning to have surgery in December and will need to get clearance then?

Generally a new patient appointment perhaps w/ a physical. Then surgery approval/clearance appointment.

Ask the coordinator if they work with any specific physicians that they work with the practice or a referral to a physician they are certain supports metabolic/weight loss surgery. If they do, the process will go smoother.

Good luck ❤

Thank you
Yes, coordinator gave me names that she recommends. I just need to check and find one in network.

You may need to do monthly weigh in or blood work and have history with a PCP for insurance

Sometimes it can take months to get a new patient appointment with a PCP, which is why they want you to start now. Also, few PCP’s of any worth would feel comfortable doing a surgical clearance during a first appointment. They will at the very least want the opportunity to order and review labs. I suggest you call for an appointment ASAP. It may seem like you have all sorts of time now, but it goes fast. BTW, I am a nurse working in a large primary care practice. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
