RainbowBrite57 153 Posted July 29, 2020 I had my pre-surgery blood work & tests at the hospital this morning. I also received the 2 week pre-surgery diet I will need to follow. Of course, it follows a very low carb path. I was diagnosed w/diabetes in January & I feel very nauseous if I don’t eat enough carbs so I’m not sure how this is going to work for me. I plan to ask my nutritionist about this but I was also hoping other diabetics could weigh in with what they did. My diabetes is controlled with Metformin. Thank you! WishMeSmaller 1,274 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) My PCP had me stop my metformin prior to starting the pre-op diet. In another month I will have myA1C checked to see if I need to go back on it. Fingers crossed for being done with metformin🤞🏻😊 Edited July 29, 2020 by WishMeSmaller None 1 RainbowBrite57 reacted to this
RainbowBrite57 153 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) That makes total sense, thank you! It would be SO nice to kick the metformin to the curb. I’ll keep my fingers & toes crossed for you! Suzi_the_Q 257 Posted July 30, 2020 Can you try substituting Beans or lentils for your current carbs? They are nutrient-rich slow-chain carbs. My dietician is cool with it for my program. 1 RainbowBrite57 reacted to this

kj5280 25 Posted July 30, 2020 There are enough carb grams in your pre-op diet to meet your needs. Trust the process. Talk to your dietitian if you have any concerns. Lots of us are in the same situation. I felt perfectly fine, and now I’m 2 mos post-op. 1 RainbowBrite57 reacted to this
RainbowBrite57 153 Posted July 31, 2020 Thanks y’all! My doc may end up lowering my Metformin some or stopping it. I love Beans so I’ll try that! I’ll follow the plan & see how it all turns out. Thanks again!
