Hey everyone!! I am new here and am SO glad I found you all. I had my sleeve done in Mexico (I know... ) back in 2011. I have no complaints, except there was no after surgery care. So, long story short... i have gained almost all my weight back and would really like to hear from some of you about re-sleeving or another surgery that would help me. I am looking to lose, atleast, 80lbs. I don't think I want the DS, simply for the malabsorbtion and dumping issues it comes with, however, I would still like to hear from someone having gone thru each of the surgeries. Thanks in advance!

You're right the DS is extreme but the happy medium is the RNY bypass :) it's better than sleeve but not as extreme as DS

if you don't have dumping now, you won't dump with the DS. The DS has a sleeved stomach and a bypassed small intestine. Since you already have a sleeved stomach, they don't have to do that piece of it - they'd just do the intestinal part. They're not going to have to do anything to your stomach since the VSG is phase 1 of the DS.

I had a sleeve done in 2013. I lost significant weight then re-gained most back. This year I got the SADI-S modified DS. Between the surgery and changing my diet, I've lost 87 lbs. this year. I'm happy with my decision and expect to lose more weight this year and keep it off.

Hello, I had my sleeve done in 2014 (394lbs down to 255lbs). I did regain weight aswell (295lbs.. current), original goal (230lbs never reached). My surgeon advising going with modified DS as a revision. He mentioned increased bowel movements with this procedure. How has this experience has been for you?. Im concerned about lack of control or the constant need to go and other possible side effects.

Modified DS has worked well for me. For me, bowel movements are different from prior to surgery. I'd say they are sporadic. I can have many in one day then none for a couple of days. I haven't had any lack of control.

Having VSG surgery, losing weight and regaining was a lesson for me. Now this time around after the revision, I'm taking the nutrition plan seriously. I'm eating healthy foods all day at the right portions. I've never followed a diet plan so carefully before without having some junk food time to time.

From the research I did prior to selecting this procedure, I read the modified DS is offered as a procedure that reduces dumping syndrome and diarrhea because you keep the pylorus (opening from stomach). Surgeons claim it has a lower degree of GI side-effects and resolves irritable bowel syndrome.

Research your options and ask your surgeon all the questions you have. Good luck with your journey!

Does it really resolve IBS? I wasn't in the market for revision, but this would be worth it! Is there research on how it improves IBS? What is the recovery period? I had vsg in 2012, need to lose 80lbs to get back to goal...which I'm committed to seeing this through, but I'm just off of an IBS flare up, and it's horrible.

I have spoke to my doctor and he did recommend the SIPS procedure. So, I am going to research the surgery and would LOVE to hear from anyone that has had the surgery... pro’s AND con’s, Vitamin regime and daily life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
