Clear protein stage after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am due to have surgery on 8/7/20 and I am about to look into some products for the clear Protein stage right after surgery when you’re home but not ready for full liquids. I tried Isopure clear and found it revolting. I was able to get it down by holding my nose but I would love to hear some of your suggestions for this stage. Thanks!

I purchased on Amazon Protein Premier Clear. I couldn't find Clear in the stores so I tried my luck online. I purchased Peach flavor, it's okay. There is another flavor but for whatever reason I chose peach. You can also have Water with flavor drops. Honestly, I don't know how I survived that first week, it was this and pretty much broth. That is the hardest week!

I’m meeting with the program nurse in an hour. I will ask her.

Would Unjury chicken Stock qualify? https://unjury.com/products/unjury-protein/chicken-soup-flavor.html

I spoke to the nurse about Unjury and she said it should be fine. I’m kind of confused though because she said no whey but I see whey on the list of ingredients.

Weird - my nutritionist says whey is fine as long as it doesn't upset my tummy. Unjury is a medical-recommended brand so maybe that's why she doesn't care that there is whey in it?

I’m on the last day of my Clear Liquids. I ordered the clear Premier Protein Water directly from their website and that gave me 20g from the one drink. I also use the Unjury unflavored so I can add it into my full liquids in the next stage. Best of luck!

Some Bariatric programs allow the shakes in the first stage. Mine wants clear liquids for one week. But the nurse said the week begins the day you have surgery. So if you have surgery on Monday by the following Monday you start the next phase. If everything goes well I will be out on the third day and have to start drinking clear for less than five days. That’s not bad.

I thought the same thing regarding the whey Protein in the Unjury Soup, but I looked closer at the ingredients and saw that it was whey protein isolate. I believe the isolate is the key??? Not 100 here, but I think that this may be why it is ok. However, I'm for sure not a nurse nor dr. Worth finding out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
