Need to hear from VSG to DS revisioners

Yay @gottabeblair so happy. Sounds like you had a super smooth procedure. Sorry about the reflux but hopefully will subside! Curious if you are having any bathroom issues with it? How much do you want to lose with his revision?

I did a one week preop, pretty easy. I think I lost about 5. Surgery early tomorrow morning. Hopefully with a nice easy recovery!

Good luck today! Wishing you a great surgery and an amazing post-op! The reflux seems to be a thing when I don’t sleep slightly inclined. The dr said it would subside over time but told me to get Pepcid complete chewable... LIFESAVER. I take one if it happens and it knocks it out immediately but it hasn’t been much of a thing the last few days.

No bathroom issues yet... first poop (sorry lol) was last night and it was fine. Not real gassy or anything like that. But I haven’t eaten anything solid yet so only time will tell lol.

I can already tell weight loss is slower this go round, because I kept a good chart with the VSG. By now I had lost 11 lbs and now I’m at 6, excluding the 11lbs all the hospital IV fluids put on me. Realistically, revision alone I expect maybe 75-100. With my trainer I hope to lose 150. I’m much more motivated to exercise now because I’m not doing this again. Whew, no way! I’ve already started back walking up to 20 mins approved by my doctor.

Please give us an update when you can!

Quick update! Surgery was Tuesday morning and stayed in hospital until 4pm next day. Home now and doing well. Doc only added the DS of intestines so nothing else was touched. There had been talk of possibly resleeve or remove gallbladder.

First day I felt amazing and was up walking around like a champ. Day 2 was the worst so far. Bad heartburn but the nurse was able to get me a dose a Maalox.

As of now I am sleeping in bed but up in a sitting position with pillows. Omeprazole is working to control reflux.

Did anyone else do a swallow test while still in the hospital? Lingering diarrhea from the barium liquid.

Been drinking pedialyte mixed with 50% Water which is working really well for me.

Onward!

Post op day 7 update: returned to work today and survived it. My main issue right now is a terrible reaction to the Dermabond surgical glue. The itch and red bumps with rash are horrid!!

Applying cortisone cream and trying to pick off all the glue (doctor said it’s ok).

Other than that I have progressed to full liquids and they go down just fine. Occasionally throughout the day I get a serious of slightly sharp pangs in the abdomen. Not sure but hoping this is just part of the healing process.

Using Tylenol only except now nights since the horrible inflamed glue itch started. Switched from pain pills on days 4-5.

On ward!

Post op day 11: Revn from Sleeve to DS. Bad glue reaction spread but I think it is thinking about turning a corner. Eating Greek yogurt (key lime chibani and oikos), lean shakes, blended Soups like Tomato, broccoli cheese and lentils. Still drinking pedialyte mixed with Water. The reason is because I am finding it difficult to stay on top of my fluids at work so I want to make sure I don’t get dehydrated. That is an issue I need to take on next week. Next food stage cooking is mushy foods in a couple days. Liquids, I will miss ya but not that much!

Onward.

So good to hear your updates! Glad you’re managing work okay! Liquids was the worst. Once I started being able to eat, the heartburn got much better. Rarely is it an issue now. My doc sped along my food reintroductions since he said it was designed for people who had healing stomach lines, not for restriction. So now I’m at soft solids. So I pretty much eat anything soft, no breads Pasta rice etc or processed foods. I’ll live here a while. Down 20lbs. I make a nice Protein smoothie and then usually have one meal. No major hunger in between. If I snack, it’s something like yogurt.

Can anything be done for someone like myself that has fallen off the wagon? I had gastric bypass in nov of 2010 and within the last year and a half put it back on after my Gma died.

@GottaBeBlair that is a really good weight loss! I think I am one week behind you and I am at 9.5 pounds since day of surgery and like 5 before that from prep diet.

I tried for a faster food re-entry but no dice. So here I am in week one of two on mushys.

I do get some discomfort when eating harder foods. For example I when had white Beans cooked with fresh broccoli rabe. The greens were slightly tough. Anyway, curious if anyone else had a similar experience. I was a little freaked out by it. Currently at almost 3 weeks out.

@circlesis it amazes me how different each surgeon is. I eat regular food at this point, just shy of a month. I still don’t have much of an appetite even though they didn’t touch my stomach. I’ve noticed on days a way more, I lose more but I haven’t learned to trust my tool yet. So scared of failing again. How are you?

Today was kind of a bummer. This morning I had an episode of stomachache and vomiting. My best guess is that it was the avocado I had last night. It felt like a food intolerance kind of sick. Super surprised though considering there was nothing done to my stomach at all. I was never sick at all with sleeve.

I have heard something similar about losing more when eating more with this DS. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m also not in normal food yet.

I’m at 15 lb lost total. Today is my 3 week surgiversary. 5 pounds in the past week.

4 week post DS conversion from sleeve update.

Have we entered the stall portion of the program? I wonder. Until today and yesterday I have lost steadily something each day. I have also moved to soft foods, so probably a correlation there.

Able to eat small amounts of meat, veg, fish/shrimp, rice, potatoes etc fine. No issues to report this week. Total pounds lost is about 18.

Onward!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
