HI! I was wondering if anyone has gone from gastric sleeve to re-sleeve to bypass. Yes I know third revision 🥺 however my GERD has become horrible. So my surgeon wants to convert to bypass. My sleeve was done in 2011 and re-sleeve 2015. Need some input from experience!!

Thanks!!

At the end of the day it comes down to calories and food choices but the bypass should have malabsorption

there are actually several people who've had this revision - in fact, I've run across some who've gone from lapband to sleeve to bypass. Hopefully someone who's been through it will chime in.

she said she's doing it because of acid reflux.

Yes thanks catwoman7 it is due to my severe GERD. Was giving the advice from my surgeon to have it done back in 2017 and I decided to wait keep doing meds and big lifestyle changes and unfortunately no relief if anything only worse. Definitely know the food choices and calorie intake are important. Also was told the weight loss is very low after the revision but not from personal experience.

I think the weight loss after revision has a lot to do with whether or not you gained weight and how much. If you didn't, there won't be much loss, but if you did, you should lose as much as you did after the first procedure. It might come off a bit more slowly, but you should eventually lose the excess weight.

I’m going through this now and I’m a nervous wreck. I had the sleeve done in 2011 and thought it would help my GERD and hernia. Well my hiatal hernia is much worse and so is the GERD. I thought I could just have hernia surgery but that’s not possible after having had the sleeve. My doctor said the only way to fix both is to do a bypass.

So irresponsible if the surgeon didn't advise you that sleeve will make GERD worse!!

Bypass is your only option

I’m seeing a different doctor since my original dr that did my sleeve saw that I had ulcers, GERD, and a hiatal hernia and still recommended the sleeve.

I had the sleeve 9/2016 and 3 years later I developed a hernia. went to my surgeon and did some testing. was told that I needed the redo but I would need to get the gastric bypass. Surgery was delayed twice due to covid and I was just released from the hospital today. I feel great, sore but great. I had surgery on Monday 8/3 and my surgeon is very conservative so he kept me till today. He showed me pictures of before and after. I have my follow up on Monday. Let me me know if I could help out

anytime! Please contact me privately if needed to as well. good luck on Tuesday. I have other friends who had the sleeve then had either a hernia or other issues and then had the gastric bypass (the big one). If you are in need of another surgeon let me know I am in San Diego, Ca

I might be a band to sleeve to bypass soon lol I had the band in 2015, that just did nothing for me, 2016 got the sleeve and now I’m struggling big time with GERD symptoms and my surgeon said that he needs to look inside and if it is in fact GERD and not a hernia causing these symptoms then bypass is my only option!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
