Lol okay I may have missed that comment and never saw it then. My profile won’t let me upload a profile picture or bio yet and it’s making people question when I comment on things.. getting annoying lol

@cmac1mcB I don't think the fact you gained weight due to a side effect from your asthma meds changes the fact that you had WLS in order to lose weight. Many people here had WLS in order to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea etc.. Additionally early on many of us struggle with having to eat when we are not hungry, in order to get adequate Protein. So even though you may see yourself as different than other WLS patients, I think you will find your journey pretty similar.

As mentioned in another comment. It was to help treat my low blood pressure and to fix my reoccurring esophageal and stomach bleeds and required upper endoscopies and surgeries. I understand where everyone is coming from. Losing the weight is helping, though it’s my ability to use my lungs that’s the major improvement, and regulating my blood pressure so I’m not always dizzy and nauseous. Any WLS has a similar journey because the surgery itself was for weight loss. All I’m trying to say is I didn’t do it FOR weight loss, I did it for the other remedies as a result of the surgery. I’m not trying to be different or see myself as different at all, I’m just asking for personal experiences on other health conditions that improved because of the surgery..

I’m not a bot. I literally downloaded this app less than a week ago and this was my first post. Way to be rude tho. 👌🏼

I may not have fully explained because I know there are many other reasons to needing the surgery besides weight loss. It helps with many other health concerns. I didn’t specify mine in the main post because I wanted to know other people’s stories who did it other than for weight loss. Mine is because I had lung problems, asthma, early onset signs of copd, esophageal and stomach bleeds that required surgery to stop and recover from. I haven’t finished setting up my profile with my full story.

We’re all (or were) fatties so there’s no bluffing here, but typical weight gain w steroid is nill. I happen to be an educated fatty with a masters degree. You chose the calories you put in your face, same as the lady who had a death. It is a food problem if you are putting too much food in your mouth. All of us did. Denial is rampant on internet.. i am the third person to agree with the posters above saying you have a food problem. Hope it helps for your reality check to help you be more healthy otherwise i wouldnt have commented. Hope you have lots of success denial can get in the way of that 🧸

I'm an asthmatic, and I'm 49. I was never skinny but did not become obese until my late 20s, and not severely morbidly obese until 2010 when I had my son. I was not diagnosed with asthma until around 2015, and it was severe at the time.
I did my surgery for WEIGHT LOSS to improve my asthma, liver disease, and newly diagnosed hypertension, along with wanting to prevent diabetes, which runs heavily in my family and I didn't have my some miracle.
To say I did the surgery for all those things is true, but the common denominator here is that obesity can cause or worsen all of those conditions, so it would make no sense at all to say I didn't do this for weight loss. Getting my weight off is the only thing that will help some of those things.

Has anyone done the sleeve or bypass for non-weight related reasons? I did it for my severe asthma. I haven’t taken my inhaler since the day before I went in for surgery and I’m 5 weeks out. I feel like it’s extremely difficult to stick to my meal plans because I never had a food problem before.

I was fat like you but also had gastroparesis which the surgery would help lol 😂

I have asthma but I have a slew of medical issues due to my obesity. Even after having the surgery last month I still take my asthma meds and use my rescue inhaler so I’m curious how you got off those so quickly especially is your asthma is serve? Would it be nice to breathe better? Sure would but I did this surgery for my high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre diabetes, sleep apnea, joint pain etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
