Protein suggestions

Recommended Posts

Good morning! This is my first day I am able to drink smoothies. I made my smoothie with my vanilla flavored Protein and was so disappointed! I can NOT stomach the protein. Not sure if I’d even be able to stomach the flavorless protein powders because the ones I’ve tried also have a taste. They all taste like milk(which I do not enjoy drinking). Are there any supplements or anything else I can take to get my protein in during this phase?

Pinch your nose closed and drink it. That should help.

I began to hate Protein smoothies and found a juice-like mango flavored drink by Premier Protein. They have other flavors if you don't like mango.

I love the Premier Protein drinks I get them at costco for a lower price. My Favorites are the chocolate, vanilla, Cafe latte and in the Fall the pumpkin spice. I feel for you because luckily for me, I really enjoy them. You can always eat Protein the old fashion way with chicken and fish.

I have the same problem with whey Proteins since my surgery. I have found GENEPRO to be pretty tolerable. I can’t taste it in a fruit smoothie. Might be worth a try.

Maybe it is the whey you might need pea or isolate which is less lactose? Or some people can get protein Water?

You could try a little Hershey Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup mixed in. Try just a teaspoon mixed in 2-3 oz first to make sure you tolerate it well. I was fine with it but it's so much easier to try a shot glass of something and build up.

Also try making it mixed with ice. I could only tolerate it super cold. I also tried the Protein waters but they tasted strong with a bit of a chalky after taste but mixing it with some Water and drinking it over ice it was much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
