Texaschick09 0 Posted July 18, 2020 I was wondering how soon before surgery did everyone start their liquid diets? Did you cheat? What did you do when your blood sugar would drop too low? surgery is July 22nd I am drinking Clear Liquids. broth, Jello, sugar free popsicles and Protein Shakes just wondering what’s everyone else’s take on the liquid diet. ms.sss 15,733 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) I started 2 weeks before surgery. I was supposed to be on 3 Protein Shakes a day, which I did most of the time, but there were days (near the end of the two weeks especially) that I only managed to take in 2 shakes...which was weird. Other than Water, didn't have anything else. Also, I didn't have any issues with low blood sugar...at least nothing noticeable. catwoman7 11,221 Posted July 19, 2020 two weeks Never cheated. No blood sugar issues. I could have 4-5 Protein Shakes a day, all the no- and super-low calories fluids I wanted (e.g., Crystal Light, water), SF popsicles, SF Jello, and a limited amount of clear broth and V8 or Tomato juice. BigSue 1,395 Posted July 19, 2020 I had a 2-week pre-op liquid diet. The first week, I was allowed 3 Protein Shakes plus one small meal (under 350 calories, no rice or pasta) per day. The second week was all liquid, 4 Protein shakes per day. I never cheated, but I was not able to drink as many protein shakes as I was supposed to due to bloating. RickM 1,752 Posted July 19, 2020 Only the day before surgery, clear liquids only. Didn't have one post op, either, though things were mostly liquid at first, other soft and mushy things were acceptable, too.
jennyhenny0330 38 Posted July 19, 2020 I had my liquid diet two weeks prior but it included 1 meal, Protein and 1-2 cups of veggies. I know the first day, I had to eat half my protein at 2:30. I ate later my other half with veggies After that I was able to drink two protien shakes and make it till 5 for dinner. I cheated with egg drop Soup twice I think. I was also able to drink homemade broth so that kept me from starving kinda. If you want a bite try 1 spoon of what you are craving. Just to get it out of your system. I see nothing wrong.
