I am out of breath is that normal?

Recommended Posts

Ok today is day 2 post op to be honest I could not resist the urge to stay laying down so I would not have to bend and upset my stomach incisions yesterday. (and besides it was very difficult going from a sitting to laying position) Today I am trying to take on more because I have the kind of job that is really demanding so I only put in for Wends, Thurs, & Friday off so its back to work for me on Monday. I found that the only comfortable way to sleep was in my back but this moring I tried laying on my side because this is how I normally sleep. In a matter of 2 days my emotions have been off the chart. From feeling happy that I have done this to buyers remorse and the reality that this is forever. Ok my emotions are pretty much in check right now. My concern is the fact that I am easily winded. I just searched my closet for my sneakers I figure a brief walk may help and to be honest it feels like a mild case of hyperventilation. I sat down on the bed for a few and used the breathing apparatis the doctor gave me but I am hoping very soon this will pass becuase I don't want to have to experience this at work. Has anybody else experienced this?:nervous

remember to do deep breathing exercies for your lungs to be up to full capacity again....they deflate with the surgery. this is very important to do, or you can end up with pnuemonia. take care, Debbie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
