chrisisinchrist2 4 Posted July 12, 2020 Hi. I am wondering if anyone is able to get enough Protein, per day, by food. I am 10 weeks post op and have been on “normal” food for over a month. I absolutely detest Protein Powder, Protein Shakes, Protein Drink and any form or protein supplement. Not only do I detest, but it doesn’t sit well inside my stomach. I try to eat protein throughout the day (eggs, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, tuna, some cheeses) but I feel like I am no where near my protein gram goal. Wondering if anyone is hitting their protein goal with actual and food and what you are eating. Thanks.
catwoman7 11,221 Posted July 12, 2020 most people do eventually get to that point and can give up the shakes... 1 sillykitty reacted to this
ImsexyandIknowit 50 Posted July 12, 2020 (edited) I hear ya on the shakes. I like Built Bars they have tons of Protein and they are nothing like your typical Protein Bars. Almost like eating a candy bar. Low sugar. Really good. I was also doing eggs everything. Good luck. NovaLuna 710 Posted July 12, 2020 My surgery requires a MINIMUM of 80g of Protein a day and I'm not going to even bother getting that on my own. It would stress me the hell out, so I go for a minimum of 50g on my own and then 1 Protein Shake that has 30g. I had to work to that. For a while I was on 2 Protein Shakes a day and trying to get in 20g on my own. I usually average somewhere around 60g on my own and then with the protein shake I'm about 90g and since you had the gastric sleeve your requirements for protein are less and it's very possible to be able to do it on your own without the shakes eventually. You'll get there!
It's time. 145 Posted July 12, 2020 Isn't there a Protein Water?
California Guy 131 Posted July 12, 2020 I am getting all my Protein from natural foods. I eat plenty of turkey and chicken. I have eggs 3 - 4 times a week. I have Cereal with milk the other days. I snack on yogurt daily.

It is strawberry and watermelon flavor -- that's the only flavor they had. It tastes pretty good -- watermelon isn't my favorite flavor, but it is good enough. It has 90 calories & 6g of carbs. They taste like fruit juice and have forty grams of Protein per bottle, no carbs, no sugar and no fat. I don't care for the thick shakes either, except the Premier Protein cafe latte flavor. It tastes like a starbucks latte but has 30 grams of protein. I live on those, beef, shrimp, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, cheese and eggs pretty much. Sammi_Katt 303 Posted July 12, 2020 I can't do shakes (I developed an allergy to whey after surgery, and the Bone Broth and pea based Proteins taste horrendous), and I get all my Protein from food. I usually am anywhere between 60-90grams a day. I eat eggs (egg whites because I have to do low fat; my gallbladder failed a month into my recovery), turkey bacon bits, ham, and cheese omelettes in the morning with either broccoli or asparagus inside. My snack is Ostrim turkey Jerky and either nuts (I like 0.5oz of cashews), 3 grapes, or mozzarella. lunch is lunch meat or vegetable sausage (morningstar is good) with 4-5 triscuits and some laughing cow. dinner is varied, but it's usually some kind of meat and veggie together. I eat a lot of actual meat and vegetarian protein, but I did find one protein product that was super tasty. I'd get fairlife milk (lactose free and high protein) and Magic Spoon cereal (protein cereal made with allulose!!! It's so tasty!) and eat that occasionally in place of one of my meals or my snack. I also will occasionally eat a One brand Protein Bar, but that's only on days I can't make it home to eat my regular meals (high protein, low sugar). You gotta get creative sometimes, but it's totally doable to go without shakes. Bleh.

Arabesque 7,443 Posted July 13, 2020 I found the shakes hideous too & don’t get me started on pea Protein Powder 🤮 (anyone want to buy a tub - lol). I found a high Protein yoghurt drink (22g). I used to thin it a bit with about 40ml of unsweetened juice & added my silica, collagen & benefibre. I had it every day to boost my protein intake. Sometimes my tummy would grumble about it but worth it for the protein. You’ll find it easier to reach your protein goals as you progress & can eat a little more. My surgeon & dietician told me not to stress too much if I didn’t reach the goal every day to begin. eggs & seafood are good sources of protein & easier to consume for most. And the Isopures, I prefer cold, but I can drink them room temp and it doesn't bother me at all. You are doing really great on your weight loss tho! I have only lost 84 lbs, but I have a bad hip so walking is out of the question. I limp around the house from spot to spot and move about as little a possible for the most part. They told me they won't fix my hip unless I lost weight first so here I am.
