It's Going to Be a Lifetime

Recommended Posts

For years, my doctor has told me to stop dieting. In fact, she's told me all the dieting I've done has made me fatter. She's preached lifestyle change, over and over, but I just couldn't make the change until now. She wasn't onboard with my surgery because I didn't have health issues, but I think she might be changing her mind because I'm doing so well. I haven't lost crazy-fast and I'm feeling great, labs are good. I'm only 5.5 months out, so it's still new, but I'm listening to my doc now. No crazy diets, just eating healthy and exercising. Maybe, just maybe, the surgery got me on track!

Do you feel you have finally made a lifestyle change ?

Congratulations on your progress. it’s a wonderful feeling isn’t it?

I think coming to the realisation that continued success will only come with a lifestyle change is the game changer. I also realised that I will have to work at it for the rest of my life. The hard work continues.

I didn’t have any health issues before my surgery either but it would only have been a matter of time. My doctor was very supportive from the start & now she asks me questions about my experience so she can share with any of her patients who may also benefit from the surgery.

Yes it has to be a completely new way of life its not a temporary fix it needs full commitment..

yes == it's definitely a lifestyle change. No way could I eat like I used to. At five years out, I still track everything I eat and try to stay within a certain calorie range to maintain my weight. I also exercise 5-6 days a week now. If I start slacking off, my weight starts going up. Been there.. And BTW - I have never-been-fat friends who have to do this as well to keep from gaining weight, so it's not just us!

Guru in training-I love your doctor! The advice she gave you is something I've never heard a doctor say. Is she HAES informed? I wish someone like her had told me that in my 20s before I did so much dieting. Congratulations on your success! It is lifelong and it is a rediscovery of befriending our bodies.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
