liver shrink diets aren’t the same

Recommended Posts

Surgery scheduled for July 22. Started my pre-op diet last Tuesday. The only thing they really told me was to stay under 50g if carbs per day and not eat things like sweets and rice and breads. I have been eating eggs and turkey bacon every morning because they are low in carbs and high in Protein but I don’t feel like I am doing this right. Anyone else have a pre-op diet that is not just liquids? Am I doing it correct? I just have a hard time believing that bacon will shrink my liver enough for my surgery. Any help?

You just need to do what your surgeon says. Did they give you an information sheet or booklet with an example day for your pre-op diet? If it would make you feel better to have a stricter diet, you could always have Protein Shakes instead of eggs and turkey bacon.

I envy you for getting to eat real food during your pre-op diet! I haven't had anything but Protein shakes, sugar-free Jello & popsicles, and broth in 4 days, and all I got for the week before that was protein shakes and one meal per day under 350 calories with no rice or Pasta.

That’s my birthday I’m having mine on 7/28 and I have the same liver shrink as you. It seems like it maybe wrong but my nutritionist said it was because of my BMI being low I think mine is 38.6 I am 221 5’3 currently

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
