One more day of liquids

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Tomorrow is my last day of the post op liquid diet. In my program, that was limited to Protein Shakes only for meals (no adding fruit, etc.). I can honestly say that I am sick and tired of these Protein shakes.< /p>

On Wednesday, I get to move to pureed foods. Does anyone have any suggestions for something to start with? Right now I'm leaning towards scrambled egg (doubt I can get more than one down), tuna, and the like. Can anyone suggest some interesting foods that worked for them in the beginning of the pureed stage?

Someone recommended the ricotta bake. I looked at recipe and it doesn’t seem bad :) you can google it and it will come up

check out the blog "The World According to Eggface". She's a bariatric patient (had hers several years ago) and loves to cook. She has recipes for all stages. In fact, I think that ricotta bake recipe originally came from her site

Definitely ricotta bake. I also ate cottage cheese a lot, scrambled eggs, homemade "refried" Beans (though be careful because they can cause gas!), and canned chicken (low sodium) because my new stomach apparently hates tuna. My girlfriend made Soup for everyone at one point as well (was a chicken soup of some sort) and blended it up for me so I could eat it. Just make sure if you do that that it's stuff you can eat (and be careful when introducing new foods; I did everything one at a time normally to make sure it would agree with my stomach. Like, find out if you can even eat scrambled eggs before adding cheese to it. It's a learning process...).

So, had 1 egg with a slice of cheese for Breakfast. Ended up having some stuck in my throat because there was no room. The weirdest feeling...
Think I'm going to have to supplement with Protein Water for some time still. My nutritionist wants me to try to get to 100 grams of protein a day.

My nutritionist advised against eggs for at least 4-5 weeks because they are apparently harder to digest.

Ricotta cheese while having high Protein, also has high calorie count. I stuck with tuna for the first week and quickly got tired of it. Just dry canned tuna (with whatever Water juices were there in a can) ehh, but then next week I decided to add little BBQ Sauce, made it kinda taste like pulled pork, that and some light mayo got me through another week and then it was more variety.

Some of my favorites were cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and scrambled eggs... also you could try baby cereals with a little flavoring and/or pureed baby foods with some flavorless Protein Powder. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. Day 3 of pureed today. So far, I seem to be tolerating things relatively well, with the exception of ground meat. The ricotta bake is really good! Reminds me of a cheese lasagna without the Pasta.< br>I have been having issues figuring out when I'm full. Guess my nerve endings in my stomach are still messed up. I don't have any warnings before feeling over full (food stuck in my throat feeling). And this is after 1/4-1/3 cup of food! Guess I have to measure my portions smaller...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
