Can you eat shrimp?

Recommended Posts

I have really been wanting shrimp lately...it's funny how my tastes have changed. Shrimp was something I rarely ate and never craved before but I loved burgers and now the thought of a hamburger repulses me. Anyway, I have been scared to try the shrimp though for fear of getting stuck. Luckily, I have not been stuck or PBd at all since surgery and I have a fair amount of restriction right now. I know shrimp can be hard to chew, chew, chew into almost liquid due to the texture. Do any of you eat it or is it not something that would be good for a bandster to try? Thanks.

i have eaten shrimp on a couple of occasions, i was really loose though. i was told that after you are tighter, it is more difficult to eat shrimp because of the consistency.

I can eat shrimp.. I have gotten stuck on it (for eating a big bite of a jumbo and not chewing well). You just need to make sure to chew chew chew it. I have a hard time chewing shrimp 'really good' because it kind of disgusts me to chew it a lot.

yeah, i have found that i do not like a lot of foods because of the chewing. shrimp does not taste good after it has been chewed for a while. i have to drench it in cocktail sauce to like it.

I love shrimp and have not had any problem with eating them. Just make sure you chew it well (30 times) and enjoy! Start out with bite size ones(salad) to see how well you do.

Let me know how it goes!!!!:)

One of the things about shimp is it should never be overcooked. It should take no more that 5-6 mins to cook no matter what way it is cooked. And just be very mindfull when you eat it take small bites and chew well. I eat all kinds of seafood now because it is banster friendly. I have pb'd on Lobster tail but the claw meat is fine. Shrimp is too good to give up. I really miss grilled steak and that is the one thing that I can not eat anymore.

Yes, I can still eat anything (bread, popcorn, etc.) as long as I chew well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
