Revision surgery: Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-Need Help

Recommended Posts

I am 36years old and after almost 7 years post-op from my sleeve surgery, I've gained ALL the weight back over the course of these years. I know..how? Well, I had two jobs and school and no time for "myself." Managing all three of these commitments, I also started by old eating habits in eating junk food and fast food since there was no time for cooking and meal-prepping.

So after my first visit, I asked my doctor if it was possible to get a re-sleeve. He discouraged me and said he strongly recommends a revision to the gastric bypass. I am a little nervous since I've heard so many things from my friends about malnutrition, having to randomly use the bathroom any type you eat, and possible depression. Not sure if anyone here can help me in making this decision. I have a meeting with my doctor on July 7th and I want to be ready to tell him with confidence that I am ready to have a revision to the Gastric Bypass.

Please tell me what should I be expecting, any concerns, any questions that I should raise?

Curious, how much weight did you lose from the revision? I'm going to have one, pending insurance approval. Thanks!

So far 65 lbs I had it done in august it’s a slower process because of the sleeve they said but if I were to exercise regularly it won’t be higher but at this time it’s kind of hard and I work in a plant so I’m tired when I get home from doing cars all day lol but I think I could do better but yes it’s a bit slower this time around

A bypass such as a SADI would be a good choice. That's what I did. I haven't had any unexpected negative side effects post surgery. Another option to try is just to do the sleeve reset, a dietary change that may reduce the current size of your stomach.

I think the OP meant a gastric bypass (RNY)

if you're referring to the RNY, then malnutrition is rare as long as you keep on top of your supplements.

the "bathroom thing after you eat" is uncommon with the RNY. The vast majority of us deal with the opposite problem - Constipation.

if you meant something like a SADI or DS (which is not the same as the RNY gastric bypass. SADI and DS are a sleeve stomach with a bypassed small intestine), then those things are more of an issue. But even with that, I think malnutrition is uncommon as long as you keep on top of your supplements.

ADDENDUM: I just rechecked and you said gastric bypass (which is the RNY). So no, those things aren't common issues. You just have to be more diligent about taking your Vitamins than you would be with the sleeve.

Hopefully your life is more under control now so that you have time to commit to the bypass surgery otherwise If you face similar issues you may face the same challenges.

But I only dump if I have something high sugar or fatty content which is obviously rarely. You need to learn to eat clean and healthy again.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
