lcawthorne 0 Posted June 25, 2020 (edited) Hello I had the gastric bypass yesterday. I have had urinary retention since surgery. Voiding about 300cc in 24hours. No urge to go. Also, around 24 hours post op my stomach is so bloated and tight. I have an OnQ pump in for pain I’m worried this may not be the norm Edited June 25, 2020 by lcawthorne

Krestel 330 Posted June 25, 2020 I totally couldnt pee for a week after my surgery so it's not out of the ordinary. Apparently when they do surgery on the abdomen, it's not uncomman to have urinary issues. I got a catheter until I could start peeing on my own. I had to pee but couldnt for the life of me. As for the pain, mine was from the gas irritating the nerve that is connected to the diaphram that goes up to the shoulder. It hurt like a MF!!!! So hang in there. catwoman7 11,220 Posted June 26, 2020 the bloating might be from the air and fluids they pumped into you

Lots of different things could be causing your symptoms and you can damage your kidneys or cause infection with retention.

Agreed 100%...believe it or not, not being able to pee is a life threatening problem. Do not underestimate it! (I am NOT joking or being sarcastic AT ALL.) 1 WishMeSmaller reacted to this
mcfluffington 179 Posted June 26, 2020 You probably need to be catheterized. Are you in the hospital? If you don't go to the bathroom they will catheterize. They usually monitor your urine flow. This happened to me every time I had surgery. If you are home go to the hospital..
Daisyjayne 124 Posted June 29, 2020 I was catheterised in hospital after my sleeve, with regular ultrasound to check that my bladder was draining. It took a while to get full feeling back after surgery. Pretty common apparently. Would have been nice to know before I had the surgery lol, it was one side effect no-one told me to consider.
