Ronnysgal 56 Posted June 22, 2020 Good afternoon, I wanted to see if anyone's heartburn got BETTER after Modified Duodenal Switch. Please and thank you. My physician seems to think it will help me as the food will not be in the stomach for very long.
catwoman7 11,221 Posted June 22, 2020 I'd be curious to hear this as well. They usually recommend an RNY for people with heartburn, but I'm not familiar with the modified version of the DS.
Ronnysgal 56 Posted June 23, 2020 It is simply a DS that brings up the connection higher on the small intestine so that you can absorb more nutrients 1 catwoman7 reacted to this

Although since you'll still have a sleeved stomach, I'm not sure how that's going to improve the heartburn situation. There's something about the shape of the sleeve and the pressure it causes that supposedly causes the heartburn (well, in some people, anyway)
Ronnysgal 56 Posted June 23, 2020 I don't have the sleeve. I had a gastric bypass that had to be reversed so I have normal anatomy now and terrible acid reflux

Although a sleeved stomach is part of a DS, and sleeved stomachs can often make heartburn worse. Although this doctor would obviously know a lot more than I do about this. Either way, I hope this works for you. Heartburn is AWFUL!!!
