Hello again! Does anyone have information on using Fiber supplements post surgery? I don’t have trouble in that area but like to use to stay “clean,” if that makes sense, lol! Thinking too much fiber may be tough on the new stomach... any ideas? Thank you! Jennifer

Constipation is an issue for many after surgery but so too is diarrhea. The high Protein, low carb diet is the culprit. I added benefibre to my shakes every morning. Keep your fluids up & have some stool softeners in your medicine cabinet. When I got to day 3 without any movement I’d take some coloxyl. Some need much stronger stimulants or enemas to get things moving.

Once I was in maintenance & added some good carbs - multigrains - I became more regular again.

I was told to use Benefiber the first few months if I felt I needed the extra fiber, but after that, my surgeon's office said Metamucil was fine to use, too. Reason being is that Metamucil expands in your stomach, but Benefiber does not. The slight expansion is totally fine after your stomach is fully healed, but it could be problematic BEFORE you're healed, thus the delay on being able to take Metamucil.

I like benefiber too. it is flavorless in Water. however, I have found that this is not enough and I still have issues.... I like to add ~1tbs chia seeds to my diet somehow, either in yogurt or blended in a Protein Shake. the combo of chia and benefiber is great and keeps me regular. I am admittedly not disciplined about getting in the chia even though I used to have double+ the dose pre-op pretty regularly. as everyone knows, it's tough adjusting post-op with all the meds, Vitamins, Protein, etc... but this thread is a reminder that I should really try harder with getting the chia in again....
