Hey I am nervous about the sleeve for one reason - the effect it will have on how I take my anti depressants. Did yall stop? When did you restart? What was the effect?

I was nervous about that too, but it's all been okay. I didn't take them the morning of the surgery or the next day, but started up again the following day. My doctor knew they weren't chewable and that I had to swallow them whole and he was fine with that. Some of the really strict limitations, I think, apply more to the other bariatric surgeries. Not saying that it's okay to not follow the rules, but the sleeve doesn't seem to create some of the same issue with absorbing medications.

a lot of people are on them. Sometimes they have to adjust the dosage after surgery, but not always. At any rate, you should be fine. Like the above poster said, you may have to stop taking them for a day or two when you have the actual surgery, but other than that, no....

I worry about that, too. I’m on a combo of meds to treat my OCD. I’m on an anti-depressant and an anti-psychotic that keeps the intrusive thoughts away. I worry about having to discontinue them for surgery and having a really rough time. Luckily for me, I’m just barely getting this all started, and I can work with my psych nurse and the bariatric surgeon and figure out what the best course of action is. I’m pretty useless without my medication.

I had to open mine up and take it "crushed". It was a capsule (Prozac 20mg) so it was easy. I stopped taking it for about 5 days?!?! BAD MISTAKE. I was just in pain and wasn't thinking clearly.. also surgeon told me I could stop taking it, but I knew that was bad advice... but I just wasn't all there for the first days after.

It seems some doctors advise you to crush pills... and some don't. You can get a pill crusher for cheap on Amazon, if your doctor is one of the ones who tell you to crush. I took my pills crushed for 2 weeks but when I went back at 2 weeks - my doc said I only had to take meds crushed for a week.

My med has the same effect on my as prior to surgery. Nothing has changed.

I skipped one dose of Prozac (the night of surgery) - but so far haven't had any trouble swallowing the capsule whole (20 mg). I'm only 16 days post op - but haven't had to adjust the dosage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
