Was passport required for your surgery? Can't schedule b/c passport office is closed!

Recommended Posts

I am still researching doctors and the one that I want to schedule with requires a passport (mine expired this week!) and the passport office is closed in Seattle. There are two doctors I am researching that do not require one, but one has a very negative review on this site and the other has no recent reviews (Dr. Pedro Kuri) who seems a bit old and may not be recently certified.

Any recommendations for surgeons who will take an enhanced driver's license from Washington State??

Yes, passport is required with all doctors, they need to make sure your real, serious and after the surgery you will make it back home with no problems. You can not travel back home from Mexico into the US with a US driver's license. You must have a valid US passport or a valid passport card.

I renewed mine (a year or so ago) by mail. Not everyone is eligible to do this, but many are - just google "renewing passport by mail" or "renewing passport online" to see if you can do it.

You don't need to go to a passport office, you can always apply for a new passport through a participating post office. However, it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get it.

Just did. Came back with my driver's license and birth certificate. No problem at all at the border.

Just did mine at Oasis of Hope in Tijuana, Mexico on the 21 of June. I started the whole pre-op diet a month before my surgery to make sure I was sugar free and soda free. Dr. Gonzales was amazing. I haven't had any pain, just a little discomfort with I drink to fast. As for getting over the border and back. It was easy. I didn't have to show anything to get to Mexico and coming back I used my driver's license only. Mine had the gold star on it and had the TSA endorsement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
