*Almost 1 year post op

Hey everyone!

I will be 1 year post op July 18th and right now i'm kind of lost. I'm down 101 pounds so i'm very happy about that. 😊 I just need the motivation to exercise and be motivated. I feel like i'm at a stand still and my next goal is 30 more pounds. What gives you motivation to work out and just all around motivation? Also how much do you eat? My surgeon said i need to measure everything i eat still. I just serve a little bit and if i dont finish the food i throw it away..

Look at everything you're putting in your mouth like be careful of carbs. Sodium. Fats.

I did little exercise but walking and stationery bike and lost over 150lbs..

I still measure/weigh food at five years out. I don't trust myself "eye-balling" portions. My only motivation at this point is that I know how hard it is to lose regain (been there....), and I do NOT want to be obese again. I've put WAY too much work into this...

just so you know, what you're experiencing at about a year out is not unusual - many of us DO start to lose motivation at that point. But you can keep going if you put your mind to it and continue to work hard.

I’m 8+ months post op. HW 285 SW 245 CW 173. Total lost 115 lbs. Want to lose 30 more. I’ve never measured. I do eyeball & count in head. Doesn’t work for all. I have strong aversion to writing down, journaling & exact counting. Negatively reminds me of my up-down history with WW. It’s worked so far. Also took me good 4 months to get into exercising. Joined gym just before self isolation so it’s been on hold. But took advantage of isolation period. Broke out my old hand weights, leg/arm bicycle & bought Pilates ring. It has become part of my schedule during this period & will continue to do so. Results I’m seeing keeps me motivated. Not only some “bumps” that I’ll call muscles! But tightening of legs & arms to help with some saggy skin. And energy level through the roof. Hope this helps but I didn’t start to exercise until I was good ready!

Motivation for me is getting on Facebook( I know ...no one uses it anymore) and looking at all of my old pics and my hot friends when I am about to order that Dominos pizza, That kicks the craving right then, I dont measure.... I just use mind over matter. What scares me now, is the fact that I can eat a whole pizza and not blink an eye.

The fear of regain is what motivates me daily. So many people say that WLS patients start regaining weight around the third year post-surgery. I know four people who had WLS ten years ago, and three of them regained -- one 40 lbs., another 60 lbs., and the third about 100 lbs. Only my former roommate stayed at 125 lbs. and it's a bit of a miracle because she eats pretty mindlessly -- but always stops when she feels full.

I had my one year WLS anniversary five days ago and that is when I changed up my game. Before this, I eyeballed my food and exercised a little and the weight came easily off. But now I am logging and weighing everything, and am exercising daily. I really don't want to regain. That's my motivation.

I’ve just passed my 1yr anniversary & it’s a wonderful new world.

However, my biggest fear is regaining the weight I lost. I mean it’s what I’ve done all my life: gain, lose, gain again. Rinse & repeat. The fear is keeping me motivated.

I generally do eyeball but in saying that I check the weight of meats & will cut it into pieces to keep my intake to 80-100g raw. If I have a pre-packed food or multi serve packs (meats, seafood, rolled oats, etc.) I ensure I eat only one serve or less than the recommended serve. For example the bulk pack chicken tenderloins I buy recommends 1 1/2 pieces per serve - I eat one. I know about 1/2 cup fits in the curve of the palm of my hand which helps eyeballing when I go out (remember when we used go out regularly) or prepping fruit & vegetables.

And I always try to eat slowly & to listen to my body - do I really need that next bite.

When she stops eating when she feels full she is not eating mindlessly. On the contrary - she seems to be pretty mindful of what she's doing and that she is the one who didn't regain so far indicates that this strategy works for her.

Try setting a fitness goal for yourself. Maybe a 5k? Thats how it got started for me. My new addiction is exercise. I just completed my first half marathon 3 weeks ago...and now im training for a Triathlon. I find if im working towards a goal it makes working out easier. My nutritionist wants me eating 2500+ cals but that based off my training. 150 miles on the bike a week plus 10+ miles of running. its struggle because i eat a lot of small things constantly, but its all healthy foods. It sounds like a lot but i trust her 100%, shes gotten me this far, and i definitely notice a difference in my performance if i dont eat. Good luck!

I’m only 4 months out, so I still have a long way to go. Started at 333 and am now at 270.8 as of this morning. I walk at least 10k steps a day and am doing some strength training and hiit videos from YouTube. But I’m only doing short ones that are 5-15 minutes in length. That way I’m still getting a bit of a work out and training myself into making it a habit. I’ll eventually start longer workouts. (At least that’s the plan). I find walking can be very boring, so I listen to audiobooks while I walk. One morning I walked for over an hour because I wanted to hear more of the story. Find something that will work for you.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Woohoo! I have 7 more days till surgery, So far I am already down a total of 20lbs since I started this journey.
