How to know you’re full early on?

Recommended Posts

Maybe a dumb question. I’m 3 days post op. I’ve been setting my 20 minute timer and pouring my 1/2 c. of Protein Shake to drink. So far I’ve only gotten down 1/4 c. at each meal before my timer runs out. The info from my nutritionist also says to stop when you’re full, don’t feel like you have to finish the whole thing. But EVERYTHING feels weird right now. It’s all so new and I don’t know what I’m feeling at any given point. Any advice?

I'm 3 weeks post op today...for me...I get an pain in my shoulder...sometimes a runny nose...burp..or hiccup. Each person is different. When I first started...I only allowed myself 3 ounces...to be full. Hope that helps.

It's MY time!

Agree with Sweet Puddin’. It is so individual. But/And I remember wondering the same thing. I pulled out the material from my surgeon saying approx. how much I should be consuming at each stage to be sure I stayed within range. From there, it was a matter of learning what it feels like, and that changed as the internal swelling eased down, etc. A few times I took in too much🤯and boy did that teach me to stop short of doing that again. I didn’t “dump” but did vomit once, perspire and a few other times I felt full up to my throat, which is also no good. For me, the burps mean I took in too much and don’t like the full feeling. For others, the burps are okay.

Someone on here or maybe several, reminded we are better off to “no longer go for that full feeling” as we did in the old days pre-op, where we lived with stretched out tummies. That turned a light bulb💡on for me and I feel Sooooo much better choosing to live that way. As long as I get my macros in for that meal, I stop, realizing the nutrients will kick in and give me a satisfied feeling without going for the “full”.

Hang in! Keep listening to your new baby tumrum.

Congratulations!!!

I've been eating only 4-5 bites, then waiting 15 minutes for it to get to my stomach, then eating 4-5 more bites.

My doc said to eat until I am full then stop. Other people say they can hear gurgling in their tummy and they stop.

All I know is that the few times I ate until my stomach was full -- I ate too much and was in pain after. I just wait until it has time to get to my tummy, then if I am still hungry I eat a bit more.

I guess just like everything with this journey - it will be different person to person. I am 15 days post-op in soft food stage, fyi.

At three days out I was barely having a sip of clear broth twice a day. Was not hungry & not interested in eating. By the end of the first week I was drinking more. I’d make up a Protein Shake & then sip it for hours. I didn’t consider time until I was onto solid food after 6weeks. Now I just make sure I eat slowly over 20-30 mins so I get the message I’m full or satisfied.

Goid luck.

Your little pouch is still healing sometimes the sensation or full feeling won't come just yet

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
