My health team looked at the fact that I have sleep apnea, one of the qualification for bypass surgery. Good luck.

VSG is on the 24th for me and my anxiety is in overdrive (fear of dying). I’m glad to read all the good outcomes on here but of course that then makes me think I’ll be the one to have complications. *sigh*

Anyway, I’m hoping all goes well. Good luck to everyone!

I know that feeling that was my main worry about dying on the operating table but it went well. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi,

I also had that fear and just fear of the unknown ( will I be the only one to experience severe pain, will I have to be readmitted to er for not getting enough Water and nutrients, what if the gas and bloating never ends.....) among other thoughts. Now I’m 3 days post op and am having to remind myself that I had major surgery and that it’s going to take time to heal. I’m reminding myself of this everyday. Today, my pain seems more bearable, but I have only been able to take my Vitamins, medications and eat a popsicle. I have been walking more around my house.
I will be praying that your fear subsides soon, and that each day will get better and better for you.
You got this!

Welcome Rollyn. My surgery (gastric sleeve) is August 31st as well. I’m really excited, fingers and toes crossed that nothing goes wrong and causes a postponement.

Day 6 Postop....[Revision surgery from sleeve to bypass]

Today I feel much better. I have to be honest the pain from VSG versus the RNY bypass is much severe at least for the first couple of days. This didn't happen to me when I was sleeved. The good part now is, I am feeling much better. No complications here. I take in my daily Vitamins, get my 40 to 60 grams of Protein [isopure] and my Water intake is about 40 to 50ounces. To those who are in the process or will be having surgery...stay strong and think positive. The pain will go away...and by watching so many videos I think 2 to 3 weeks at most. I wi be concern if there are any complications after this period.

Location: NJ
Age: 37yrs Male
Height: 5'11"
Surgery Date: August 17th 2020
Weight at Surgery: 281lbs
Weight as of today [Aug 23rd]: 269lbs
Concerns: No complications.
What I've Learned: 1) [emoji2211] walks for 30 minutes really help me out. 2) Rest and sip on water whenever you can. This really helps. 3) pain meds help me recover on the first 3 days and I will take them at night time purposely to sleep through the night. 4) don't compare your results to anyone on this platform. NO JOURNEY IS THE SAME...and every body metabolic system works different and their gastroenterology works different.

Will post again once I go into my 2nd phase of my eating diet.

Just had my first 'meal' (ie something that required chewing) in 15 days - bit of mash with some non-pureed bolognese.

Presumably I won't know for a couple of hours whether it was a good idea not to puree it (I'm technically still right at the start of the puree stage but it's so vile,), but I chewed like mad and feel fine at the moment so fingers crossed. Not full, but not feeling particularly hungry either.

I’m 6 days post op and things are getting there slowly but surely. My abdomen is tender but I did throw up and dry heave a lot in the hospital. I’m struggling to get my Protein in because the Clear Liquids are too sweet. The powder is too thick and I felt like I was going to puke it back up. Going to call my nutritionist and she what she suggest. I walk as much as I can when I’m not in pain. Not really a fan of the pain pills but I take them at night so I can get some rest.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
