Hi...I am prepping for Aug...not scheduled yet, but I am about halfway through my appointments...

What made you decide on the sleeve? My Dr thinks I'll be better with the Duodenal Switch, so I have been researching the differences and pros/cons like mad.

So my facility really only does the sleeve or bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't care for the idea of moving things around as well as the malabsorption that comes with it. My surgeon also told me that if needed you can go from the sleeve to bypass but you can't go from bypass backwards... everyone has their own though process tho.

Last week, my Bariatric NP sent me for a sleep apnea test. The sleep disorder doctor said that my file showed me have surgery in August, so he would have me test right away. That was the first I'd heard of date, but I'll take it. All of my pre-op appointments will be finished by then. I'll have my CPAP. I'm almost ready.

Im nervous about the Vitamins and malabsorption, too, but they told me that unless i can stick to a really strict gym routine the sleeve wont work for me. Did your dr mention anything like that to you?

No he didn't say anything like that to me.. exercise is going to be a part of any surgery no matter what you decide.

I get fitted for my CPAP next week. My apnea was mild, but during REM sleep, my blood oxygen drops for nearly 20 min. I wish I'd had a sleep study earlier.

I hope your study goes well. My tech was a sweetheart. I couldn't have been more comfortable.

Hello Everyone,

I just got my surgery date set for August 26th, 2020. I am having the Gastric Bypass surgery. I am feeling a bit nervous but I excited at the same time. I am new here so any tips or general chats are welcome 😃

I am scheduled for the sleeve on the 7th. Doing the liquid diet for the next two weeks.
I am doing a revision from the sleeve to the bypass. Sort of nervous but everyone tells me I'll be just fine. Best of luck on yours. And whatever you do....stay away from sugary and starchy foods. That was my wrongdoing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
