I'm not sure if I should be stressed or not. I have a three month weigh-in/nutritionist visit requirement from my center. My insurance requires BMI 35-39 with only one comorbidity OR BMI of 40 and above with the following guidelines:

-Pysch Consult

-Past weight loss attempts aka documented failure of weight loss attempts.

Here is my weight loss so far.

Starting BMI taken at info session: 41.76

1st nutritionist visit- 41.70

2nd nutritionist visit- 41.26

3rd isn't until July 6th.

All other clearances are done with the exception of my EGD, which is on 6/11. I still have to take a COVID test, which the date for that is currently pending.

I am SO paranoid and worried now that since my BMI has decreased slightly, that I will be denied by insurance. For reference, I have Highmark BCBS. Has anyone else been in this predicament? Am I overreacting? The center I'm using doesn't seem worried, but I didn't really ask in detail today at my second weigh-in either. I have no plans to drop below a BMI of 41, but I'm just so scared this will disqualify me now under the guideline of "documented failure of weight loss" :(

As long as you're still above the 40 BMI you SHOULD be fine, I think... I had a 6 month weight loss requirement for my insurance instead of the 3 you had and they still passed me despite the fact that I lost a LOT of weight on my own. I was worried that they'd deny me as well. My first visit I was 385 pounds with a BMI of 62.1 and the day of my surgery I was 321 with a BMI of 51.8. I lost 64 pounds on my own and they still approved my surgery so I think you'll probably be fine.

That’s amazing! Yeah, I was not expecting to be two pounds lighter, so maintaining this weight until my final weigh-in has me a little nervous. I’ll make it work though. Thank you for replying

Are you worried about dropping below 40? In that case, it depends on the insurance company. Most (although not all) seem to use your beginning weight in their approval decision, so you may be fine.

as far you not thinking they'll pass you because you were successful in losing weight this time around, don't worry about that AT ALL. They use past attempts, not what you did during the six-month supervised diet. I think all they're looking for with that one is to see if you're capable of following a plan. I lost 57 lbs during mine and they accepted me with no problem.

@catwoman7 YES! I was thinking omg, I lost two pounds, so that will look like I can lose weight on my own and maybe that will disqualify me. I wasn't too sure what they look at as "past weight loss attempts." If it's weight history, I think I'll be fine. In my adult life, I've never had a BMI below 41, so I don't think it will drop below that for my last weigh in on July 6th. The office had told me from the very beginning to just maintain. Thank you so much for this!!

I have BCBS and they used the weight from my first appointment. My BMI is now below 40 and I am scheduled for surgery 06/30

It only took about a week or so. I was approved in March but Covid pushed my date back .

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
