Gastric sleeve 2nd year out.

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody I am new to this forum ...however I've had gastric sleeve in 218 and last year I lost my insurance so I'm not updated on guidelines for how many calories intake and Protein can someone share with me the guidelines? Back when I got the surgery I was to consume 800 calories a day and 75 grams protein. Is this still correct help I've gained some weight back!!!

you can increase your calories after you hit maintenance, but by how much is going to be very individual, depending on your age, height, weight, metabolic rate, activity level, etc. So it's sort of hard to advise you. It's going to take some trial and error to determine what your sweet spot is. How many calories a day are you averaging now? Are you happy with your weight? If so, you're probably fine at your current level. If not, try cutting about 100 calories a day. If a couple weeks go by and you haven't lost anything, try cutting 100 more. Rinse and repeat until your weight starts going down again (but keep in mind if you're within 20 lbs or so of a normal BMI, that weight is going to come off R-E-A-L-L-Y S-L-O-W-L-Y....)

There are no guidelines that provide fixed numbers on e. g. calories intake. There can't be. TDEE varies a lot depending on the factors catwoman already listed.

As for Protein the old 1 g protein per 1 kg of normal weight is still what the dieticians in the hospital I got surgery at recommend as a rough guideline, a bit more when you're exercising a lot. So if your normal weight is 70 kg you should aim for about 70 g of protein a day unless you're very active.

Unfortunately the information you provide is a bit scarce here. In general I agree with catwoman. Best strategy is to ease down your daily intake until you start losing weight again and then let it level off so you don't have to change gears again.

You can do this by counting calories as was already suggested or you can do it by simply reducing the amount of food you eat a bit and/or changing the type of food you eat if you abhor counting calories (like I do). Exercise can also help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
