I got my COVID-19 test yesterday... I’m terrified that it will come up positive and ruin everything. It’s not just a matter of having to wait longer; I have a lot going on in my life this year and a pretty narrow window to get the surgery. Somehow, everything came together for me to get the surgery during this window, and it feels too good to be true because nothing in my life ever works out the way it’s supposed to.

My biggest fear as well! I get my test 7/13 the day before my surgery on the 14th. Fingers crossed all will be well!

Good luck! Are they going to be able to get the test results back in one day? My test was supposed to be Monday (3 days before my surgery), but they called me yesterday afternoon and told me to get the test early because it’s taking longer to get results now. I hope I get my results quickly because I cannot stop worrying. Even if it’s bad news, I’d like to know as soon as possible.

I had questioned that and she said that if I was getting tested later in the day she would rush it, but since I was coming in early they would have time. I am the first surgery of the day on the 14th, so hope she is right. I feel the same about getting the news. My husband has been congested, so got him tested on Friday. He won't get results for 5-7 days through CVS testing.

Maybe your hospital has its own lab where they do the testing. I think the tests really only take a few hours to run, but there is a long queue since so many people are getting tested. My hospital sends the tests to an outside lab, so they have no control over how long they take, but if your hospital is doing them in-house, they could put yours at the front of the line.

Hello All,

Hope you are all doing well. I am on Day 5 of my pre op diet. The first few days were rough. Today has been better. I am in more of a routine and I have lost 6lbs. I am excited but also anxious as I have to do a lot of prep work at home this weekend before I leave town next weekend. My hope is to clean out my pantry, fridges, freezer, and cupboards. I need to know how much and what kind healthy food I have to work with and how much little tupperwares I have before I place my order for Amazon. We are also processing 2 roosters so that I can make some nutritious Bone Broth to freeze and have ready for me when I get home.

On my amazon list I have a variety of Protein Drinks, broth, compression socks, pill minder, unflavored Protein Powder, water bottle, and some other goodies that have been recommended to me. If I have time before my work week starts I am going to work on cleaning and organizing the closet, bedroom, and guest room. Then start packing.

I am super excited but a little nervous as I will likely need a COVID test and while I am not sick nor have I had any explicitly sick contacts I am anxious none the less.

Just had my surgery on the 7th..... I’m feeling very shamed and regretful..... I’m happy I did this surgery excise I’ve been putting it off for months but I keep having the thoughts that I could’ve lived with the extra weight. Yeah I was diagnosed as obese and it affect me physically, and emotionally.... but even so I still feel like I made a bad decision with the sleeve. I’m only a couple days post op so maybe that’s why I’m feeling like this. I’m having gas pain and I’m really struggling to get down my liquids. I’m often wondering when will I be able to eat normally? How much will I be able to eat? I don’t want to live life being conscious of what I’m eating and only eating 2-3 small bites of food.... how am I gonna go to a restaurant with friends and can barely finish my plate and everyone is noticing me. My mother had the same surgery and is doing good but she eats a small amount... even before surgery I didn’t really eat much, I barely finished my plate but I always had small amounts. I guess this restriction will be good for me but I’m worried that I won’t be able to eat “normally” :( I’m probably feeling this because I just had surgery huh??

*Hugs*

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. My surgery isn't until next week, so I can't tell you from my own experience, but when I am having doubts, I like to look at before and after pictures for inspiration.

There are so many people on this forum whose lives have changed for the better because of WLS. Before I decided to have WLS, I actively looked for people who regretted their WLS so I could make sure to weigh the pros and cons, and they are hard to find because the overwhelming majority of people who share their WLS stories say that it's all worth it.

I don't know about you, but for me (and most people), it was a long process to get approved for the surgery and complete all of the requirements. You've had a long time to think about it, and I'm sure you had really good reasons to do it. Trust yourself and your judgment! Hang in there! I bet you will feel better once you start to see amazing results.

I am sorry you are having a hard time. I haven't had my procedure yet but the battle with obesity is in large part a mental one. I believe it to be normal to have those thoughts when you are not feeling well and are feeling down.

Your current symptoms should resolve in the near future but in the long run I don't think you will be able to eat "normally", isn't that what gets us to this point in the first place?

From the information my surgeon gave me initially your stomach is about 2oz or 1/4c, by the end of the first year you should be around 6-8oz or around a cup.

You will likely have to live life conscious of what you eat, but technically we all should. We should all be careful to eat healthy and mindfully, that is not something to be ashamed of.

As far as restaurants with friends you can either A: find a way to adapt and pick choices from the menu that are healthy and manageable with your tummy or B: hang out with your friends and family somewhere else (but this option isn't feasible really for a lot of people). Can you not tell your friends so they can be supportive? Or if you don't want to tell can you order something healthy and take most of it home, or maybe share a plate with a friend?

The surgery doesn't fix our problems with food, we have to do the hard, painful work of examining our habits and problematic thinking that got us to the point that this procedure was the answer for us.

I wish you well, you can do this

I just got the results of my COVID-19 test and it's negative! That was a lot faster than they said it was going to be. I'm glad I can stop worrying about that. I'm working from home next week, so I don't plan to have any contact with anyone until I go to the hospital.

Your feelings are perfectly normal, many people have the same thoughts. Myself included. I’m four weeks post op and the first week for me I didn’t really process what I did, despite the obvious changes. The second week I had a few fleeting “omg this is forever” panics, particularly at night as I lay in bed with nothing but my thoughts. Now? Loving it. As soon as I started getting solids in and felt the restriction I was happy. Very few people know I had it done so eventually at holidays people will see my portion size and ask.. they’ll also see my weight loss, so I’ll tell them most of the truth... I’m eating less, I’m eating healthier, and I’m not going to gorge myself just because it’s a certain date on a calendar. Same would apply if I ate out. I’m already eating whatever I want (they’re all good choices though so that’s a new thing I’m enjoying). I honestly don’t miss the garbage and getting full on one egg or two grilled chicken bites is just as satisfying to me as any plate full of food i would have eaten prior. All the flavor is there, smaller nibbles doesn’t change that and I really think I’m taking longer and savoring it more. I hope you get better, I believe you will.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
