8 months and 3 days post op. Weight holding steady between 158 and 162 for several months now.

I still have Gerd and am on same PPI before surgery.

No problems with foods as long as I stay away from the things that make me dump violently🤢. Also I have to be minded about the amount or I will get violently ill too.

Hey, @Tracyringo I was sleeved on 9/11/18. Lost about 120 pounds then got pregnant and started suffering from serve reflux and lost restriction. I am scheduled for a revision to bypass on 3/29/21. I would love to talk to you about your experience with revision. I am now about 70 pounds heavier than my lowest weight and am dead set to make this a success. Any tips or words of wisdom?

That I'm not sure of. I paid cash for my sleeve and am paying cash for my revision surgery.

Hi Tracy,

sorry to hear about the Gerd. Bypass is supposed to fix that so I’m concerned for you.
my Gerd is gone completely but I still get nauseous after I eat food...it’s better than it was a few months ago but still there. My weight loss is very slow. I’m 203 and started at 264 (bypass July 18 2020. One would think that after 3 months in and out of hospital (not bypass related), I would have lost much more, but it’s ok, I’m in no rush. I hope you’ll see your doctor regarding f the Gerd. The meds are not good for your pouch long term. Xo

Revisions are different for everyone. I had a lot of anxiety afterwards because of not having restriction like I had with the sleeve. It has taken me a long while to finally get use to it. Part of that anxiety was me thinking I would have problems with regain because of not having the restriction. I dump and get violently ill from eating wrong thing or too much food, so I am very careful now.

You will lose the weight just make sure you follow the plan like you did with VSG. I was at goal with my revision but I lost 12 lbs the first month. I weighed in on Dr scale yesterday at 157. I am down 23 lbs and holding.

I will say this. It is a lot easier for me to maintain my weight now then with the VSG and I stay 10 to 15 lbs lower then with VSG. Good luck and PM me anytime

I was at Dr. office yesterday and they say its not unheard of for some of us to still have GERD. Its just rare but if I dont take my PPI I burn just like before the bypass. I am still going to be scheduled for the bravo test. I cant wait for these non believing Drs to see my test results !!! That being said I have to stay on this medicine unless they can figure out why this is happening. I sit, stand , walk it doesnt matter I burn just like before just not all day.

I am so happy for you !! 61 pounds lost is great. Please tell me you are feeling better too !! What is your goal weight?

Tracy,

My goal weight is 175. I gained a few pounds and I’m up to 206 from 199 which is so weird because I’m eating about 600 calories only a day. I think it must be Water so I’ll see what happens next week. I still get sick when I eat...I literally just got done dumping a few minutes ago...it was terrible!!!🤢 I ate a handful of pretzels (mini ones). ...never again! I can’t vomit so I just drool and pray for it to pass. My left lung is still at 60% and I’m still wobbly on my feet but I’m healing. Xo

Yes I am sure it is Water. I dump the same way and it is horrible. It usually takes about 2 hours to pass. I pretty much know what foods will trigger and episode or if I eat too much I will have one. AWFUL !!!!

Do you know what triggers a dumping episode for you or does it change. I would not dump on pretzels. I dump on sweets of pretty much any kind if I eat more then a few bites. Cereal is a big no no for me as well. It has something to do with the cereal/ milk combination . Yet I can eat oatmeal ??????? LOL

I dump if I overeat usually or eat something my body doesn’t like. I dumped real bad the other day in an Adkins bar...several weeks ago so dumped real bad on a Glucerna shake. Both have no sugar, no carbs so not sure why I dumped so bad... made sure to try them twice in case it was a fluke. I think there’s some type of chemical or ingredient Incant tolerate. We’re going to compare and see. I only dump for about 30-45 minutes then I’m ok again but it’s awful. I can’t vomit so I just take it. 🤢

No vomiting for me either. Made the mistake of overeating twice and will never do it again. I also dump from sugar substitutes like erythritol and most dairy/dairy substitutes. I've always had an issue with milk, but holy moly has it gotten exponentially worse. I've also had to take it super slow on a bunch of different foods and am just now adding more raw veggies/salads in (at 5 months out).

BUT, I still haven't had any GERD, which is the primary reason I had revision, and I've lost about 65 lbs since the week prior to revision, so I'm pretty happy with the results!

Congrats on your success that is great losing 65 lbs !! Glad you are GERD free too !

Dumping is horrible so its a lot easier to maintain weight with the RNY at this point for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
