Has anyone been to see this surgeon? I am looking at having a revision from sleeve to DS. I have Gerd thats really bad and I am at the point of where I throw up when it gets so bad.

I'm not sure a DS is going to help you since they have a sleeve stomach and a bypassed small intestine. Unless he's got some new way of doing it? Usually for GERD, they revise to gastric bypass, since that often cures GERD.

Yeah I know I'm just a little scared I guess to do bypass but then I think about it and the long term effects of GERD. I just want it to go away and lose 100 pounds.

Well I had RNY BYPASS and it was the best choice ever.

Lost over 150lbs.

to be honest, though, the DS is a riskier surgery than the RNY

How is it risker ? Also I know the weightloss is slower when we have the 2nd surgery. Did you have a 2nd surgery as well?

it tends to have more complications and a greater chance of nutritional deficiencies. On the plus side, though, you tend to lose more weight with it, and it's easier to maintain the loss (because of the malabsorption)

I've just had one surgery (RNY).

Yes much higher malabsorption issues with DS. Not many surgeon in Australia even do the DS.

My surgeon is one of the top in Australia and he said bypass is more than enough he doesn't do DS.

and to prove it I've lost over 150lbs in just 8 months.

yes but that was your first surgery. I am having to have a 2nd surgery. I wanted the bypass done when I had the sleeve done but my surgeon talked me out of it.

Well that's not right my surgeon did say sleeve is easier to do etc but I had my mind set on bypass I only wanted one surgery for life and that's why and I'm doing so well we just want you to be sure of all the pros and cons before you make the leap...

Had my daughter at Parkwest in TN. However, I am in the same situation. I originally wanted bypass or DS but Dr pushed for sleeve, now I'm getting DS. Based on having the sleeve the best revision is the DS from my understanding. When is your revision scheduled?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
