They are having me do the Covid Test next week before my surgery on the 18th. Has anyone else had it done? Is it horrible? Just trying to prepare myself

It's not terribly terrible...it's just an odd uncomfortable feeling. It may make your eyes Water and you might feel like you have to sneeze afterwards, but there shouldn't be any real pain if they collect it right.

Good luck!

Had it done Monday and for ME....it was terrible. The only way to go into it...is to expect the worse and look at it as the only thing standing between you and your ever after. I made the mistake of not doing that...and was terribly disappointed. BTW...got my negative test results today. So yayyy...there's that. So it was worth it.

It's MY time!

I haven’t had it done but I’ve heard they do it the same as the flu test. I’ve had that and for me it’s not bad. Quick. Feel a little weird afterwards.

I just had mine done about 3 hours ago. The description puddinjasper gave in another post was SPOT ON. I will say, being prepared for what to expect helped for sure, but yeah, it didn’t feel good. I’m very glad it’s over and behind me!

I had Covid test last week two days before colonoscopy. Wasn't bad at all. The swab is a little brush they twirl around. A liitle uncomfortable but better than blood draw. Don't sweat it.

I went for my Covid test this morning and tested positive! I have no symptoms and have not been around anyone with symptoms. The only places I’ve been in the past two weeks were doctors office and radiology all for my preop testing while wearing a mask and everyone else had one on too. This really sucks now I’m postponed again for the third time! Starting to get discouraged after doing the liquid diet three times. Praying I don’t develop any symptoms!

I am sooo sorry to hear this. It sucks even more because you were actually doing the right thing. I hate this crap.

It is actually quite horrible lol. As a nurse, I’ve taken swabs of that sort plenty of times from my patients, but boy was I unprepared for the receiving end of it! It’s definitely uncomfortable, especially if they are getting an adequate sample with correct technique. Just concentrate on your breathing and it’ll be over before you know it.

Yep, it is the same technique we use to swab for flu!

I had covid test for colonoscopy two weeks before my surgery. I had to take it again for surgery. The second was the new type that just goes up nose a bit. Much better than the one that feels like going up into eyes. I think I am skewing my state's statistics. They have tested me 4 times preprocedure, all negative.

I had my test yesterday and my nose is still hurting. I woke up this morning with a runny nose and sneezed numerous times. Went to put my glasses on and realized how sore my nose is. Not sure what the lady did to me but she got a good sample!

I got mine on friday. Was surprised they were able to get me in within 30 minutes of calling. Horrible feeling and now I've been symptom checking all weekend 😅.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
