sammi123 116 Posted May 5, 2020 I recently was admitted into the hospital when a peptic ulcer I didn't know I had began to bleed and I hemmoriged. The surgeon told me they were common with people who has had weight loss surgery. He also said if I hadn't come to the hospital when I had I would had died. I lost a lot of blood. Thing is, I was in no pain leading up to this. I all of a sudden got dizzy, passed out, and when I came to I was sick to my stomach. I ran to the bathroom and there was a huge amount of blood coming from my bowels. This was 4 days ago. I spent 2 days in the hospital and am still weak. Has this happened to anyone else and if so should I be worried it may happen again?

catwoman7 11,220 Posted May 5, 2020 I read about something like that on this and other bariatric forums once or twice a year. So it doesn't seem like it happens very often, and certainly not to everyone, but it does happen. Sorry it happened to you. And yes, people who've had WLS are at greater risk of stomach ulcers - which is why they advise against NSAIDs and other things that could irritate your stomach and possibly cause them (that's not to say you were taking any of this, because ulcers can happen regardless - just saying that that's why they advise against them because they're known stomach irritants, and we're at higher risk of ulcers than the normal population is).
