I recently was admitted into the hospital when a peptic ulcer I didn't know I had began to bleed and I hemmoriged.

The surgeon told me they were common with people who has had weight loss surgery. He also said if I hadn't come to the hospital when I had I would had died. I lost a lot of blood.

Thing is, I was in no pain leading up to this. I all of a sudden got dizzy, passed out, and when I came to I was sick to my stomach. I ran to the bathroom and there was a huge amount of blood coming from my bowels.

This was 4 days ago. I spent 2 days in the hospital and am still weak.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so should I be worried it may happen again?

I read about something like that on this and other bariatric forums once or twice a year. So it doesn't seem like it happens very often, and certainly not to everyone, but it does happen. Sorry it happened to you. And yes, people who've had WLS are at greater risk of stomach ulcers - which is why they advise against NSAIDs and other things that could irritate your stomach and possibly cause them (that's not to say you were taking any of this, because ulcers can happen regardless - just saying that that's why they advise against them because they're known stomach irritants, and we're at higher risk of ulcers than the normal population is).

Just take Tylenol when needed. It was so out of the blue. But I'm on the mend and hope it doesn't return:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
