MVK 13 Posted April 25, 2020 Hey guys. I’m THIS close to booking my surgery with Fr. Alvarez in Mexico. The final thing holding me up is, what if there’s a long term complication that needs to be addressed by a US doctor and my insurance refuses to cover it because my sleeve was done in Mexico? Anyone have experience with this or thoughts on the matter?
It's time. 145 Posted April 26, 2020 My concern would not be about insurance but what would happen if there are complications during the surgery or just after and you're still in Mexico?

MVK 13 Posted April 26, 2020 If I’m still in Mexico, they’ll fix it. They do say that.
Wontongirl 29 Posted May 4, 2021 Did you end up getting the surgery?

Anyone have experience with this or thoughts on the matter? I know this thread is closing in on 3 years old but I am assuming you are referring to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez @ Endobariatric in Mexico. Dr. Alvarez is an active International member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), an active International Member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and a Member of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). His accreditation, affiliation and membership in American Medical Associations should negate any policies of not taking patients who had bariatric surgery in Mexico. If a US Bariatric surgeon refuses to treat you, I would register a complaint with the above Medical Associations (which the US Bariatric surgeons are most likely members, as well.) 1 1 BypassTheBS and Devi reacted to this
