Low fat high protein diet

Recommended Posts

Hi!
I’m 9 months post-op the loop ds. I lost a bit (ok, a lot) of control over my eating habits and it’s time to rejoin the band wagon! So here I am trying to refigure out which foods I can eat that are both healthy and won’t upset my stomach. I’ve had IBS prior to surgery and the malabsorption has complicated things so I’ve been eating whatever didn’t make me feel sick. Those foods are not exactly the right foods to eat, but I couldn’t handle being in the bathroom all day especially in school. (I’m 18. Had the surgery done when I was 17. Don’t freak out.. 😝) with the Covina virus, and living in NYC, I’m Learning remotely now and have more time to focus on what I eat. I want to do high Protein low fat because, ya, protein. And the fat gives me GI issues. Any ideas on meal planning?

First of all stay safe - You are the same age as my two kids who are also doing college now from my office. Since you are young i would suggest you look at the High Protein work out diets. My son is on one for building muscle now and he does not have a weight issue but has lost 20 pounds while building muscle

I'm an RNY'er, so I'm not sure if the DS'ers are on a similar diet, but if so, I'd go back to the way you were eating at first (not all the way back to all liquid or pureed stuff, but I mean the Protein first, then veggies - and then, if you still have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb). If your system can't handle the fat (I have issues with fatty things, too), then do lean Proteins - like chicken, turkey, fish, and low-fat dairy. Although again, I had RNY, so our recommended diets might be different. To be sure, I'd ask the dietitian at your clinic if at all possible...

Thank you. Starting today. This pandemic here in NY... it’s been crazy. Almost everyone at home was sick. My Dad almost died. He’s doing really well now thank G-d.... on a happier note I will be posting my first few meals to see if maybe there is something to improve. Anyone is free to comment/ add.
Thanks for your support

1 TSP of sugar! Not table spoon!!!! Ik I shouldn’t have added it but there was no way to get the shake down without it.

You might want to try a sweetener instead. Believe it or not, they have lots of fiber oddly enough. So you get at least a little more..-

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
