Does anyone else get a stomach ache from Crystal Light? It only happens at the beginning of the glass, but I can drink the rest pain free. Weird!

I'm fine with it. Some people get G/I issues from artificial sweeteners, but if it's just the first couple of sips, it doesn't sound like that's your issue. Hmmm....i'm not sure.

I get that with Crystal Light lemonade of any kind. I think the sourness of it kind of shocks my stomach and it takes a few sips to get through the rest. The fruit punch for me is a lot more tolerable.

I've found that plain Water with a splash of cranberry juice makes a great, more easily tolerated, alternative to Crystal Light.

Good luck :)

The nutritionist at my doctor's office told us we're not allowed to have Crystal Light because of the artificial sweeteners. I still drink it because it helps me get my Water in. Has anyone else been told not to drink it?

No such instructions here. If I'm told I can't have any sugar *OR* any artificial sweeteners, I'll be a in a world of hurt...

I love crystal light, drink it every day. I drank it for years before my surgery and have never had a problem.

Heather13, I see you're from SF, did you get your Surgery done at UCSF? If so they never told me not to drink Crystal light?

I drink it everyday. I was drinking Propel everyday to get my Water in, but it was messing with my stomach so I had to stop it.

I frequently find Crystal Light and other "water bottle portion" packet mixes to be too sweet or "syrupy" for my tastes, so I find myself more frequently using TrueLime, TrueOrange, and TrueGrapefruit with a single packet of artificial sweetener. It's still refreshing with a hint of sweet, but not as "heavy" for lack of a better word.

They're available in 500-packet cases which make them very economical.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
