Do you hate to eat?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery August 23, 2006. I remember feeling this same way shortly after my surgery. I wanted to eat but hated to eat. I was so hungry but when I ate I would feel the pain of the food going down. It wasn't always painful just irritating most of the time. It got better after a while, or I should say I got used to it. I still feel the same way sometimes.

I am being banded in a month and am trying to follow a 1200 calorie preop diet. I actually like chocolate soy milk with chocolate Protein Powder. Once I am banded, I plan to get therapy to address my need for food. I have lost weight before, only to find that I struggle with the feeling of deprivation, also of the new self image. I'm trying to find hobbies that are an outlet for my impulses. Right now, I'm painting Tshirts every night after work!!

I don't hate eating at all. I like the fact that sometimes I just forget to eat because I am not hungry. The first 6 months were hard. Now that I have been banded over a year, it's almost like I don't have a band. I know the size of portion I can eat, and that is what I fix. I can eat anything I want in small portions.

I'm with you worth the weight...MOST of the time I am thrilled that I am only able to eat small amounts. In fact, I get disappointed if I can actually finish the bowl of soup! It is amazing to me and I thank GOD every single day that I feel the restriction so early and can sit and know that when the time comes, 1 slice of pizza is going to make me full..

I will say though,. that ice cream is dangerous. It is my biggest comfort food and though I can manage to eat 1/2 cup (frozen yogurt) my head sometimes thinks I want more. I wait...and sure enough in a half hour there is NO WAY I can get any more down. I also find that if I drink the required amount of liquids (5 16 oz bottles) I am not able to eat anything but my allotted foods. That was the problem yesterday when I overate....I had not had anything to drink and I let head hunger get confused with real hunger.

Was banded in Oct '07.....it's funny .... I can eat steak but not hamburger or turkey burger.....I was on vacation in Kentucky last week and we went to a chinese dim sun. I didn't have much of anything but i did get the sticky rice which is one of my most favorite things in the world. I threw up in the bathroom. Thank God I was alone in there. Came out, had nothing more. We went out to the street and I saw a Cold Stone. I bought a medium cold stone creation and ate it ALL. No problem.....Had a fill yesterday and am sitting here in terrible pain trying to get some Soup down. I can't seem to do fish either. I love fish but salmon came up once and now I just can't handle it. But it's all worth it. I've lost 55 pounds so far and am more than half way to my goal. My cholesterol has gone down 66 points with no medication and I no longer have type II diabetes.......Am having fun buying new clothes and the old dudes are checking me out again, lol.:cursing:

This thread made me do a double take to see if I had posted it! Just a couple of days ago i told my mom the same thing, I almost hate to eat. I was banded March 27th and I guess i haven't quite gotten the hang of it. I get stuck a lot, I need to pay more attention to the size of my bites and chewing. I guess it's a learning process, but I do not regret my decision. 23lbs gone and definitely not missed!!!

Cold Stone is very dangerous! I was out of town selling all my dad's things and getting his house ready to put on the market. It was very stressful and Cold Stone hit the spot.

It would be terrible for me if there was a Cold Stone where I live. I gained 5 lbs while I was gone but I have already lost 3 of them. That's the great part of the band. I am really not hungry and it's pretty easy to eat right and be satisfied on such a small amount of food.< /p>

Iwas so glad to see other peole felt the same way about eating as I do. I HATE IT!!!!! I try to eat the smallest of bites but still have stuck issues with meat. I don't go out anymore beacuse I can't even eat half of a childrens meal and have gotten tired of peoples comments. It really help to see I am not alone. Sometimes I think I made a mistake, but when I get ont he scale and see the weight I have loss I know I did the right thing.

Are you cutting your meat into tiny eraser sized bites and chewing it until it's liquid in your mouth?

Don't forget that as you lose weight, you will lose fat around your stomach and the band will get looser. Hopefully, that will help you to enjoy your meals more.

My doctor really tightened it up this week. This is the tightest of the four I've had since surgery. Had a rough weekend. Today I almost met my worst nightmare. Went out with friends. Stopped for dinner. I had crepes but could only eat about 1/4 of a crepe and took the rest home. I was driving, one friend next to me and one in the back seat. They understood the burping, but all of a sudden I said I think I need to throw up. Thank goodness it passed. But today was the first day I allowed my friends to take photos with me in them. I wasn't afraid to look and when I did I thought, "Oh yeah, it's worth it." :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
