Tastebuds change

Recommended Posts

Strong flavored foods are making me super nauseous, it’s annoying because I’ve been craving some sweet flavors.
sugar free things are not helping at all.
Are fresh fruits safe to suck on? if so which ones?
I tried a slice of orange and it was the best thing ever but i’m scared of dumping.

My nutritionist told me that most people don't dump eating fresh fruit because of the Fiber it has. She also suggested eating fruit and Protein together, like apple and Peanut Butter or an orange and some string cheese.

true dumping is a lot more common in bypass patients than in sleeve patients, and it's usually caused by eating too much sugar. I've heard of some situations where RNY'ers will dump on fruit, but it's usually things like cake and Cookies.

Makes sense, I actually can’t stand Desserts now so i think i’m safe. I’m really into the fruity flavors I was just scared they would mess my stomach up. I’m not good with intake so I stop after an ounce just to be safe

Be especially careful when combining with alcohol.

My sense of smell and taste has changed dramatically. Before my surgery I couldn't stand the smell or taste of eggs in any form. Now I can't keep enough eggs in the house. I love them scrambled.

I had a change of taste preference for a while as well. I couldn't tolerate even the thought about eating something like tofu, so yoghurt or soy milk after MGB. After about 10 months out though this changed back to how it was before surgery.

My smells changed too, so it’s been really hard to eat anything. Now with this virus going around does anyone think canned fruit are ok ? or are they a no no?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
