Every sip of liquid gets stuck

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have this feeling? I’m liquids only and every single sip feels like it’s stuck at the top of my stomach. Very uncomfortable and makes me burp. I’m 4 days post op.

Your stomach is probably swollen from your surgery causing that stuck feeling. Have you experimented with hot vs cold beverages? After my surgery I found that warm drinks went down easier than cold ones. But hang in there--you should find it a bit easier each day to drink. Good luck, it WILL get better!

Yes!!! I remember that feeling! I’m 3 weeks now so it only does it every now and then. But I would take a sip and I would feel hit the top of my stomach and it felt like it would bubble. Then it would ache for a couple of seconds as it went down into my tummy. It gets better every day!

I'm 12 days post-op and it does get easier. I agree to try experimenting with hot vs. cold. For me, I found I did better with cold liquids. Now, at 12 days, I can do both cold and warm.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
