10 days post-op, self-isolation with no scale

Recommended Posts

Let me start out by saying that I know this is a really trivial concern. I have a friend in quarantine after a potential exposure at work, and a friend of a friend in the hospital on a ventilator.

But darn it, it's still driving me crazy that I'm home in self-isolation (after returning from travel for my surgery) without a scale. I haven't weighed once since my surgery.

I don't have/didn't buy a scale on purpose - for long term weightloss, having a scale in the house is a really bad idea for me. I get obsessed, and then after a few months I get mentally exhausted. I need to adjust to a new lifestyle where I don't think about food all the time, and personally, weighing every day doesn't help me with that. I was planning to weigh at a gym or doctor's office every week or (preferably) two.

Anyone else missing their scale access?

To many people who travel down the weight loss path, via surgery or conventional methods fall victim to their weight scale. DO NOT let your weight scale or any scale be the sole factor in determining your progress with weight loss. You know your weight when you started, you don’t need daily or weekly validation of your efforts so don’t get stressed out about having no immediate access to a scale. The weight you have gained or lost will be there when you do finally get to step on a scale, relax and focus on the journey…

Normally I would agree. Like I said - that's why I don't have one. And I usually roll my eyes at people complaining that they've been stalled for 3 days.

But at this point, where I just did something pretty extreme and I'm nauseous half the time and hungry the other half of the time, and still too tired to really get back to work, it would be nice to at least see that I lost 10 lbs.

I totally understand @rjan! Seeing that number drop is a great self-esteem booster! But, I have a scale at home and I wish I could stay off it every day. I went so far as to having my mom hide it from me and was frantically searching for it the next morning. Ugh. I’m a hot mess. I hope you get to weigh soon! In the meantime, can you try on a shirt or pair of pants that was just a little tight prior to surgery or do you have a measuring tape to take measurements. Happy Losing!

The other thing going on here is that I'm staying at an Airbnb apartment in self-isolation for 14 days before I go home for real. I was flying back on those days when the airports were packed with people coming back from Europe, and I really don't want to take any coronavirus home to my husband. So all I have are the really baggy clothes I took to wear after surgery.

This will all be a lot better in a week when I can really go home. I'll have some company, hopefully my stomach will be feeling better and I'll be eating a bit more normally, and hopefully I'll be feeling good enough to get back to work (I work from home anyway.) I know in the long run this is going to take me towards where I want to be - preventing diabetes, gaining a normal relationship with food, and mostly focusing on other things in my life.

Right now this is just a really weird time. I'm all alone, and I'm still feeling weird post surgery and barely able to eat anything, and it's all I can think about. Thank goodness for this forum!

That was a miserable quarantine. I think you feel miserable enough post-op without having to be alone in a strange hous. So happy to be home now!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
