I don't really care how anyone loses weight. Star Jones just ticked me off to no end for denying she'd had WLS. By denying it and using the "I've used diet and exercise" routine that we've ALL heard over and over again, it feeds into the fairytale that all overweight folk need to do is find the right diet. If it was that easy, we wouln't be here.

I totally 100% agree! Although, I haven't been as honest with people about my WLS, I've kept it a secret. I just tell them I eat less, which is true. However, I do feel guilty about it because I have a little helper. I'm just not ready to share it with others, mainly because I work in a freaken gossip pool and I don't want the cady ladies bringing me up in their gossip luncheons. So I can relate with Star Jones keeping it a secret. But she is such a public figure and people want to follow her every move, (some people), so I am glad she came clean.

Ladies what Star Jones said was if i'm not mistaken she had medical intervention!...

She has not admitted directly to WLS.

please...she still won't admit what procedure she had done neither

...but in a recent mag article...I read she said

most people put lipstick, powder, credit cards, cell phone in their purses and she had to replace that with an oxygen thingy to breathe.....and that told her she needed help... ????!!(what a look in the mirror or the scale didn't tell you?)...doctors didn't tell you? ...

too faced...idiot...

what about the fact she said she had eating issues? and weight problems?... and was hiding under big hair and lots of diva attitude and accessories... so people would see more to her than fat! and that she went thru lots of therapy to get used to her new body....

And in the Tyra show she was asked how her skin just shrunk as it she never weight as much as she did how did she accomplish that...

Ladies guess what her answer was.....oh...A lot of it has to do with genes...I guess I was 1 of the lucky ones that didn't need plastic surgery....

she is full of crap!

Just clearly admit you had WLS and what type...

Carnie did it!

I think she is just another coward who in the back of her mind thinks If I don't tell and I eventually gain a few lbs people won't judge...

yeah..ok..whatever!

:rolleyes

I watched the show and thought it was very inspirational. I didn't here them say that no one had surgery. I'm quite sure many if not most did. However, that doesn't discount the fact that they've accomplished a major feat. Anyone that's been overweight for a significant amount of time knows that diet and exercise is not a cureall. People have to make their own decisions based on their life style and what's right for them. Also, I don't think people are obligated to share their extremely personal medical history. I don't mind telling anyone who asked me that I've had the surgery but that's just ME! I don't begrudge anyone who decides to keep it to themselves. Instead of people sitting around complaining about what someone did or did not do, why not you just do YOU and mind your own beeswax. Geez folks weightloss is hard as heck as we all know. Let's not tear down our sisters or brothers who found success by whatever means.

PS Star Jones admitted to having weightloss surgery months ago. She's no longer just saying she had a medical intervention.

I watched the show and on at least two occassions O.W. stressed that the participants lost their weight witout diet pills or WLS. I am just proud they lost weight and hope they keep it off.

I went online to the forum page and was really pissed when people were saying that WLS people are lazy etc...

I could care less what people think of people that had WLS. I only care that it works. If people want to think that I took the easy way out, it's more than alright. At the end of the day we are the winners, or losers as the case may be. "Yeah throw them stones people-soon you won't be able to hit my skinny butt!" All of us on this board took our power back, and took control of our lives. We totally ROCK! :clap2:

While I did find it AMAZING that the guests lost such significant amounts of weight without surgery, I can't say I think they were being untruthful about it.

How many of us have had significant losses -- only to gain it back again? That -- in the end -- was my driving force for getting the band. As a stop-gap to never regaining what I lose!

As to those truly ginormous losses -- all I can think is they must've really been slammin' down the calories and that ANY reduction would bring great gobs of weight off. In my situation, I was super sedentary, but daily living in a 1400-1800 calorie range (2000-2500 on special occasions and holidays!) and all I was accomplishing was not getting any bigger.

I remember one of the super obese men I saw on Big Medicine or one of those other shows was eating 7000 calories a day!

JFC193

thanks for that post.

To you and everyone else I guess I can take back my own words....

I am glad Star decided to tell her story.

And what a story...it is very motivational....because I too ask myself...how did I allow myself to weight almost 230lbs.

I might have been ranting too much..

But any loss should be greatly celebrating with WLS, diet pills or plain old fashion eating and exercising.....

It's just upsetting when people in the celebrity spotlight don't want to motivate others.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
