why did you choose

Recommended Posts

I keep noticing on here about all the problems that people have with their band, it kind of scares me to think that I could fail at this as well.

Why if the failure rate is so high shouldn't I choose to get the bypass?

Why did you choose the lap band.:help:

Hi there!

I chose the lapband because the surgery is less invasive. It is reversible if any problems do arise. I didn't feel that my medical problems were so severe that I needed to go through the bypass surgery. The lapband is also adjustable, so it can be deflated should I become pregnant or develop cancer for example (heaven forbid on both of those scenarios! LOL!). Finally, I also wanted to lose at a reasonable rate of 1-2 pounds per week.

I was fortunate that my surgical experience was free of complications and I have been pretty successful so far this year. I'm getting closer to my 1-year goal of losing half of the total weight I need to lose.

Those are my reasons for choosing the band. Do your homework and be sure to make the right decision to choose the procedure that will best meet your unique needs!

Good luck!

I chose the lapband for the reasons transformer stated plus I was really afraid of the mal-absorption issue that comes with bypass. I don't want to worry about getting enough nutrients, losing hair, etc...

Also, I need food to live, I need to learn to have a healthier relationship with food. I felt the band would help me with this more effectively than bypass.

Frankly, it was cheaper. Of course it's cheaper because it's not as evasive and not as much tinkering with the innards. Not as risky as well. If something goes wrong it can be removed...w/ bypass...if something goes wrong..you are screwed.

I chose the band because it's far less risky, and it's also reversible if necessary.

Good luck making the right decision for you.

I've known a few people to get the Band, and a couple peeps to have the gastric bypass done. One of the three people I know with the band had to have it removed due to slippage, but is still happy she had it. Both people that I know that had the bypass (both the RNY) are unhappy with it. One has had severe problems and is in a pretty serious situation, the other is heavier then when he started :phanvan

I chose the LapBand for the sheer fact that I needed to lose weight! Bypass is NOT for me, I would never do that to my body, too invasive, too risky, too scary.

I have known several people who had LapBand, all successful.

I am so glad I did this, I would recommend it to anyone who needed to lose a large amount of weight and who was willing to make the lifestyle changes necessary to do it.

I chose the lapband because it is a healthier alternative to RYN. I don't like the fact that you have malabsorption with RYN. You also can't drink any alcohol. I like the fact that I can eat anything, just less of it.

I choose the band because the by-pass was very intimidating for me. Its more invasive and premenant, plus if you mess up, your stomach stretchs, whereas with the band it can be tightened. Also the chance of malnutrition is less with the band.

I also liked the fact that the weight loss is more gradual, and I can still eat! Even though I dont eat as much, I dont know if I couldve standed the amount of food by pass paitents eat! I think id get depressed! Love food too much

Cost too was an issue

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
